Meanwhile, my asthmatic nurse wife went to work today because caring for her patients is more important to her than staying home and staying safe. Sorry, your ortho patient isn't more important than you staying safe for your family, she just doesn't want to listen.

My Brother,

I applaud your wife's efforts. but my coworker is in the ICU as I type. Asthma in her history, yoga, cycling, she was active. I mean no disrespect, but maybe your sweet heart should really think this thing through. if we were better prepared and given adequate PPEs, then maybe ok. but the people I am seeing in ICU with pulmonary issues....are having a tough time. she told another friend it is as if she is drowing on land. she was having a very hard time breathing. MDs are prescribing shiat i never seen before. One patient given an antibiotic called Ampicillin, which is a penicillin and the patient has a penicillin allergy. so benadryl has been added because she needs the antibiotics.

i am a little uncomfortable with all this because this shiat is new. they are ordering Plaquenil, and other shiat to combat this that has not been used for any other so called epidemic virus, but the game changes for pandemic. to me, they are still trying to figure this shiat out. I have never been paranoid. As a trader in NY and now RN, you can't be. But this shiat has me stopped in my tracks and saying WTF.

some of my colleagues must work and have asked to go to other, less risk floors.

on the news as a type, it states NY will run out of supplies in 2-3 weeks. they need 15,000 ventilators....this is NY alone. and they gave numbers for n95 masks needed. if no mask, nurse can bring from home or use bandanas. this will surely spread the virus more.

Please keep us updated on results with Plaquenil. (My Father is a retired MD and has an order in “just in case”).

Be safe. Do good. Godspeed.

I took the day off. Yesterday was one of the most stressful since this Virus hit. Why do you ask...well good question:

1. in Orthopedics...I will care for up to 6 patients. Our Ortho floor is now a Covid 19, floor since there is no more elective surgeries for now. So we get 3 covid 19 patients max. we have a buddy system. we cohort everything. if a med is due at 9am, another at 11am......everything is rescheduled to minimize our contract. so either I push everything to 9am or 11am or go in at 10am. the idea is to go in twice during a 12 hour shift. now this didn't happen but it is the goal. after suiting up, my buddy stands at the door in the event I or the patient needs anything that I forgot or a new request....a blanket, pitcher of ice....etc by lunch time we ran out of face shields. they gave us goggles. the problem is because of the face shield, n95 face mask are not necessary. the n95 face mask protects against spreading….like the face shield. so after 12pm, we used goggles with surgical mask. very very little protection if any at all since the surgical mask do not prevent spreading.

2. 1 of my 3 patients is doing well. 52yrs old male. unfortunately, his wife is intubated in ICU and doing poorly. she has asthma in her history. they have 3 young kids. the wife is a nurse that refused intubation initially, but then she had no choice. most of his day was spent crying for his wife and the kids. he states doctors are not telling him anything on his wife. no updates. I spoke with his MD and explained his concerns so hopefully he will get an update by today. he is scheduled to go home to self quarantine to make room for other patients. so if you are Covid 19 positive, but stable...you will go home to self quarantine. Please note, there are some that have returned because of returning fevers.

3. by 10am another Pt on the floor had to be intubated and rushed to an ICU floor. at the end of the shift, another Pt's heart rate ranged 160 - 170's and staying. he dies they pulled the defib to shock him....but please keep in mind, the people that cared for him....the goggles get clogged. it is very difficult to spend more than 10 minutes with the face mask. One critical care RN pricked himself instead of the patient, because he was not able to see clearly thru the goggles.

4. Call from a friend, that another friend had passed. I asked how.....I was told internal bleeding. I probed for more.....the family is under the impression that since she didn't have symptoms of the flu, nor virus, she was sent home without furthing probing. she returns home. the ambulance is called by the family to take her back. she becaome non responsive in the ambulance and later died in the hospital. Internal bleeding.

The virus is a monster. it is taking people out. now let me place my Financial Hat back on. the Dow has erased all the gains since Trump started his presidency. The DOW dropping 3000 pts is or was unheard of. The country is way behind in its response to react. 600 pts diagnosed last week. now the county has 5000, some 1 week later. this number will increase exponentially. more and more ICU beds are needed because in my hsopital, many are getting worse with more coming in.

This shiat is real. I witnessed my first death on March 6. since then 3 more have died, with many remaining very weak. RNs have no mask, no face shields.....I will try to post pictures.

@2ez For item #4, are you saying that this friend had the corona virus? I didn’t think there was internal bleeding as a result of this virus. Are you saying it was?
thank you for your service in the hospital, I know it is hard. Bless you.

Im hearing all this talk about marshall law and that it's coming. What would that look like?

it’s here. The government and media are blowing this way out of proportion imploding the economy. it’s mind-boggling how people are absolutely clueless about this economy.

“Gov. Tom Wolf orders all Pennsylvania businesses that aren’t ‘life-sustaining’ to close, will enforce order”

The fucking Chinese should be held accountable for starting this shit again. And thanks to the media for blowing this out and starting the pandemic. Note The WHO didnt label it this till like a week ago. God damn shit fucked everything up by me, I cant even goto the gym right now, and Im sure most of you are in the same boat. I did manage to stock up on food for about 3 weeks, my local grocery store was pretty much out of everything but boxed shit. WTF?
You cant even get a haircut by me, thankfully I can goto my barbers house and get my hair did.. :)

My stocks took a big shit, Im down over $10K right now. I did invest in a few companies awhile ago that was suppose to test a vaccine on the corona virus next month. Then some fuck Andrew Left made a twitter post saying Inovio(INO) should be investigated by the SEC, and my stock plummeted. I literally quadrupled my money till that happened, now Im at huge loss.

Sorry to vent, Im just irritated by this whole situation.. Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe!

in the hospitality industry and none of my collegues will willingly let our hotels become quarantine stations, unless forced to. We got an offer that they would pay a rate of 100% occupancy and other costs, but no takers

my apologies. no, they did not. according to the family, they believe other medical conditions/problems are being overlooked. that all attention is being given to Covid 19.

in New York this may be the case. to convert some hotels into satellite hospitals. many are running out of room. the numbers of those being diagnosed is increasing kind of rapidly. Cruise ships are already offering its services. I do not believe there will be a choice for the hospitals to decline. if the need is there....i am sure there will be some kind of Imminent Domain rule here.

What I am not seeing is stats on filled beds. Mt. Sinai Health system has close to 1,200 beds, NYU over 1,300, Northwell close to 7K beds, what percent are full?

My wife is still going to work, she is not in a hospital any longer, private practice and they put hr in an office with only 2 docs so it is the least busy office which is somewhat good.

Slick,

I work in Jersey. Construction Dudes surveyed the entire hospital. They tell us any floor can be made into negative pressure. some easier than others. So this is what happened on Monday. The Ortho floor, swapped with the Oncology floor. we now occupy the Oncology floor because it is easier to convert. to many of us this is very telling. it is telling us if there are any Joint surgeries, it will be done in surgical centers and not at the hospital. So the once Ortho staff are now the Covid team. We are to take the stable Covid 19 patients and those being ruled out. the more critical will go to other floors. I know one step down floor has been converted to another ICU floor. this is all to deal with the new demand. as i said earlier....many Covid 19 patients are not doing well.

I did not take this shiat serious initially, but when you see these patients.....it is more than a reality check, it is a Mike Tyson Reality blow. My CLL/Leukemia Pt came in with Hemoglobin 4, Platelets 6, WBC 0.3 YES, YOU ARE READING CORRECTLY. age early 50's. 103 fevers. he came from home. they gave him a huge dose of chemo, whatever this means. mental status altered. urinating on floor. spitting at staff. verbally abusive. swinging on anyone that comes near because his entire body hurts.

i have on goggles and a surgical mask and initially, at the start of shift he was spitting on all of us. I asked if I can bring him something to drink while he wait for his breakfast....he told me yes and that i need to hurry MotherFucker. by lunch time or shortly after, i was able to calm him. my hospital is so fucked up that they charge people for the TV. since guest are not allowed, you would think that they will allow free TV, at least local channels but no. i paid 5 days for him. washed him up, cleaned the floors, changed his bedding. talked to him. the time in the room exceeded 1.5hrs. Told my dude / patient, help me , help him. he asked me if i ever seen anyone as sick and fucked up as he....i told him yes.....and they bounced back, and that he must keep the faith. Keep the faith and please do not give the staff a hard time because we only want the best for him. he became extremely emotional. apologetic and told me he was scarred. doctors are talking to him thru the doors and not coming in. he has never seen this before and it makes him scared.

i may return to work tomorrow. Not sure yet. the hospital is short staffed. they offer OT plus $600 incentive to show up. the money is ok, but we all are there to help, we (the staff) just ask to make sure we are safe and properly protected.

The spitting in the face happens. been there done that many times. but factoring in the possibility he may be infected takes it to another level. again, i have on goggles and a surgical mask, with a paper thin gown. this is not adequate protection.

Hey brother I applaud you for taking so much time out of your busy schedule to care for that one sick patient. Especially when they are combative or belligerent, it can be easy to do the essentials and just walk away. Also you specializing in orthopedics and now asked to care for Covid 19 patients sounds stressful as hell. Lots of respect for you stepping up. Hopefully your hospital finds a solution to the PPE shortage asap.

I'm going back tomorrow. I'm in cardiac immediate but we have 1 negative airpressue room on our unit saved for a Covid 19 pt. Im curious but also a little concerned into what I might walk into tomorrow.
