An indication of where such food manipulation is headed:

Bill Gates is America’s biggest farmer...

I know what you are saying but I started laughing when pictured Bill Gates on a farm. I'll bet the only farm he has seen is from the air.:p

Generally it’s not a good thing.
Produce is bred for a more appealing appearance, flavor, texture, and even longevity/shelf life. They’re genetically modified versions of the original — something nature never made.
We’ve been fooled as well as fool ourselves when we simply presume they’re natural and “healthy.”

I understand what it is. That doesn't mean it's bad for our health. Selective breeding has been going on for thousands of years. We also do it ourselves as a species.

Each to their own preference. I prefer closer to nature made than fiction-food. Suffice it to say, our distant ancestors weren’t eating the scientific dystopian diet we’re shoveling into our mouths 365 days a year in contemporary times.

Nothing to do with preference, it's history and science based.
Our ancestors were most definitely experimenting with crossbreeding

Native Americans crossbred corn to create new varieties and higher yields.
This has been going on for a very long time.

Crossbred dogs for example are usually healthier over time than purebred simply because of the genetic diversity.

Correct. Plant foods have been altered / fucked with for a long time. Non nature made / unnatural foods have been around a while.

Selective breeding is very natural. Is Darwin's Theory of Evolution unnatural?

Poor comparison. Natural Selection is very different than Unnatural Selection.
