I am the employer, and in our office (in our state), the employer will say how much they will pay (toward premiums and toward high deductibles if that is the case) and the employee gets to take that money and find a plan that works best for them.

I don't know if your state will give him that flexibility or not, but if so, it might not turn out as bad as you think.

I will definitely tell him about this. Reguardless, it's funny how much better off he would be if he were unemployed.

If he makes that little money, the family should qualify for the government subsidized health insurance.

He must take the employer supplied insurance. There is some form of tax credit he can get to help with the cost. If that is what you mean by subsidized then yes. We will see how much that is worth. Not gonna be 1200 a month

I don't know enough to be sure if it is the tax credit only. But I do know the end effect for those who can't afford it is supposed to be revenue neutral.

But sounds like it will kill him financially the first year cause he won't get the tax credit until the next year.

Too bad the employer doesn't offer family plans to the employees.

We do and we have only four employees.

and it would have been cheaper before right? I don't think so ;)

Umm, that was his point, it WAS cheaper before. Obamacare is more expensive for a majority of Americans than private insurance. That's already been proven.

I'm not thinking it was really because my work pays for us 100% (so I'm lucky) but all they did was bitch about how expensive it was and this was WAY before OBcare...my deduct was also 2500 at one point and guess what, I never hit it and was not give an CC card with 2500 on it to use towards my HC bills. Fortunately, I have always been very healthy so the normal yearly exams is all I need..but God forbid I want one extra lab test done and I am paying out my ass for it.

Not being a jerk, just saying what I know...don't claim to be an expert...far from it actually :)

I was just remembering when I needed an MRI on my shoulder, since I obviously didn't hit my deduct..I made a cash deal that still cost me 600.00 out of pocket...not like I just had that laying around. All this acting like it was so much better and cheaper before OBcare is not really the truth..thinking people need to be real about this shit.

Just want to be clear that he can not sign up for Obama care. If your employer offers healthcare you must take it or face peanalties.

Not really sure what your point is. Are you saying that YOU should be allowed to say what a procedure will cost? The reason why healthcare costs are high is because of the amount of abuse of the system. This abuse will continue with Obamacare, and will actually get worse because of people's lack of education and sense of entitlement. Anyone not in healthcare doesn't see this first hand and doesn't understand the system and how it's broken. Personally, I don't think anyone NOT working in healthcare should have any say in how a healthcare system should work.
