Lower back issues are no joke, I have been fighting them for a few years now. I have SI joint issues too, It shifted out on me, one day and has never been the same. The pain is ridiculous, and the only thing that settles it is the chiro putting the joint back in place. I have really tight hamstrings, and hips. Recently I have started doing more stretching and yoga type moves to help. I have a long road ahead. My lower back is so fucked I cant go heavy on squats, So I do volume. I dont want to be drugged out all day on pain meds, so I just deal with it.. Im going to check out what Donnie T does and try it. anything at this point would be better than what it is now.

Whenever I thought I blew my back out from pulling off blocks, I had a huge pop in the right lower part of my 'back'. I couldn't bend over to tie my shoes, I could barely walk and breathe normally because it hurt so bad.

Turns out I popped my SI joint and my whole hip dropped an inch. Eventually the left side went also, and it had to do with an extremely tight IT band and extremely tight erectors. When my muscle get really tight, aka minimal stretching, rolling, etc...the muscles literally yank my hips in different directions and have cause reinjury to that area.

I look at a lot of what Donnie Thompson does, I see a chiro regularly and I get massages every couple weeks or whenever I feel necessary. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks Kaitlin, I suspect as you and other have mentioned that the pain in my low back is not the source but the symptom of hip issues. I tend not to do anything until there is pain and then have to put things on pause and get well again.

I rolled out my hips last night and this morning as well as stretching and it brought some relief. Which makes me think our situations are similar and probably many other lifters as well.

See the MT Friday and Im hoping that makes a considerable differance.

Insteresting but no. I went to the MT for a total of 5 hrs last week and it appears to be hip related...too much tension on my pelvis. So, a bit of rest, stretching and time...hopefully.

What BI and PoB posted are what I would advise.

I think I'm going to make a video about the stretches I have done, and can post it in here for you. I've suffered from both SI joints shifting and worsening over time. Good luck to you and let us know what the doc says.

Spent an agonizing 4 hours with MT in the last week. Feel a lot better in every area but my lower back. Well, thats a lie...it does feel better but more like just improved...I'm certainly not ready to squat yet. She feels my back issue is related to tight hips. Which makes sense, its my left lower back and my left hip has considerably less moblity than my right...So, I got some work to do.

Sounds like you have some experience with this sort of thing so Im all ears,

Please make a new thread for your video. I think a lot of us could benefit.

Yep -- I've went to multiple chiropractors, multiple 'specialists' and massage therapists...it has boiled down to a lot of things. My IT band can sometimes be a culprit, tight hamstrings and glutes, tight erectors...overall it's usually muscle tightness yanking my hips out of whack. I've been dealing with it for so long now I can feel them as they're being pulled in certain directions and usually I can catch it before they pop completely. It's just tedious amounts of stretching, getting massage work done, and paying attention to your body.

No one wants to stretch, esp every single day. Admittedly it's annoying and takes up a lot of time when I could be doing other important shit -- such as moving weight. I would take a bother week or two off and focus on mobility and getting massage work done and see how you feel.

I am just not sure, is there a way to know for sure? The discomfort is just above my glutes, but more mid way between the spine and oblique. I'm not sure how many muscles are down there, but I cut out squats in favor of light leg press and split squats for the time. I suspect I need to heal before I assault the area.

Once you get back also specialize in training your erectors - I still do my exercises I had to do after I had my spine shattered then reconstruction - hypers 25-30, stiff deads 12-15 , lower. Back or reverse hypr machine 20 Reps. I had soine surgery in 1995- haven't used belt since - my body is its own belt. My doc stated you need to make the muscle along spine big and strong like your arms are. I do heavy deads ,squats , presses etc never no pain ever again . Not to mention I totture my back through judo ,aikijujutsu etc getting thrown violently 4-6 hours day on my back . My back stronger now at 51 then when I was 25 . I mean now I do bent barbell rows with 6 plates - never could I do before

Could be your hips which is causing the problem to arise in your lower back, right above the glutes. Try these and see if they help.

So, yesterday I performed the first phase of rolling that this vid recommended by BrotherIron both in the AM and then right before performing some split squats. For the next few hours all the tension on my back dissapeared. It came back after a few hours on the couch. But it gave me some hope and motivation. It also confirms what Kaitlin suggested in that it is hips pulling on the pelvis.

It may screw up my December meet plans if it doesn't remedy quickly, but like many delays it should eliminate another weak link in my game. Also on the plus side is bench is climbing nicely lol
