Thanks man, I'm trying, gonna be big and strong someday like you and some of the other big guys round here.

Elbows are in bad shape gonna really try and ease off them a bit, focus on the presses and squats, lay off the pulls and arm work.

I love these box squats, I feel like they are one of the best, if not the best excercise I can do to improve the hip/glutes which seem to be the key to success in strongman, highland games and powerlifting.

Haven't been training, been throwing a bit and and very discouraged that the added strength isn't helping at all, I need alot of work, the 56#er is throwing me at this point. Going again sunday, today's stone throws were getting better but overall I'm choking.

Well I haven't trained since Sunday, not really my fault, situational circumstances. But here's a lil outline of my training plans thru summer, may add a bit more if my elbows improve.

In season
Day 1
1. Box squats *
2. Good morning
3. Sled push (prowler)
Day 2
1. Overhead press *
2. Incline db press
3. Row
Day 3
1. Deadlift *
2. Sled drag
2. Farmers walk
Day 4
1. Incline press *
2. Overhead db press
3. Face pulls

Will be doing a powerlifting meet later this year so will focus building some strength for that while training events on the other days.
Weights: weds,fri,sun throw: tues,thurs,sat
Hope this doesn't break me, my body's gonna take a beating.
* means wendler 5-3-1

I too like the appeal of the simple powerlifting training. Plus mastering the 3 events requires a much broader level of fitness that many people think, just truely mastering a solid deep squat alone is huge.

Today's workout:

5/13
Box squats 135,195,210x5,225x7
Good morning 135,185,195,205x5
Prowler (30-40 yard run) 310-630 wasn't really counting, did plenty though.

Throwing is coming along nicely, got my 56# weight for distance starting to pop. Training 6 days a week is fun. Can't wait to see what I can hit in competition. It feels so good when things start to "click", gotta get in at least 30 throws per session, 3 events each time. Seems like performance starts to suffer past that and form is lost. Gotta start training the weight for height, seems like such a simple event, but explosiveness especially with lower body is an area I've always struggled with. I'm trying to hit 250 by June 24th, haven't been on the scale but I think I'll hit it. I'm staying fairly lean, guessing I'm 12-15%. I'd be a better bodybuilder than powerlifters or strength athlete, but too many tattoos and scars. I want to get some tattoos to cover up the scars but that won't help, regardless I've already agreed to do a show down the road with my wife but thankfully she's not training much at this point.

Throwing is fun.I have a hard time taking it seriously though.I am much much more devoted to strongman training than I am throwing. I'm not trying to downplay the sport ,I just suck at throwing and dont have the will to excel in it.

I am throwing in a comp June 10 th.My intention was to go and cheer on my fellow strongmen and women but somehow I got sucked in to throwing.

Have fun, and by all means dont take it seriously, it's supposed to be fun, most of us tend to take too much too seriously. I'm really excited to try strongman, once I'm strong enough. I want to try a few different things but ultimately if I can get to where I need to be I think strongman will be my primary focus. It's frusterating I'm not there yet but ive only been seriously training since last november, I was a 175# shredded lil rollerblader, bicyclist, pushup guy before joining up at a crappy gym in November. Now I'm training with strongman at a hardcore gym and (still scrawny) 235#er.

Today's work:

Incline 215,230,245x5
Log press 130x10 150 2x8 these are great!
Bent row 185x10 195 2x10
Short and sweet, not alot of time today.

Yeah kinda embarrassed about my "blades", great exercise though, I crashed way too much.

Woke up today with a flu. Yuck. I don't get sick much so it's really frusterating, luckily my wife is coming home to save the day, hard being dad when your so sick. Can't eat.

Ok back at it. Flu sucked, glad I dont own a scale. Looked at some pics from last summer, damn I was skinny. Went from looking like a cross country runner to canseco-ish in one year.

Today's work:
Press 165,175,185x5
Wide pullup 3x5, why can't I improve at these? I keep good form, pause at the top, nice and slow. Alt w/
Incline db press 70,80x10 90x8 nice and slow and tight form
Lateral raise 20x12, 25x12 hold at top alt w/
Pullover/sit-up thing w/40#kettlebell 2x?
Felt like I should be doing more but strengths down, still gotta load up on calories. No more getting sick. I think throwing takes away from my gym strength a bit too. Look forward to a focused bulk in the fall.

Snatch 8x3 95 will stay at this weight for a while, til I feel like I'm at least kinda getting it right.
Box squat 205,220,235x5
Good morning 185x5 195 2x5
Prowler 2x520 4x590
Prowler kicks my ass
