No it's not the compounds it's the oil and or solvents.
Actually it is the compound that smells. In particular it's the ester portion of the compounds. Ester's aren't only used to extend the half life of medications, they are also what give fruits their smell and they are used in flavoring candy.

That's probably why enanthate smells like honey and TNE just smells like guaiacol... no ester on TNE.
As for women smelling Test. I doubt they can smell the ester, but I do notice a lot more women checking me out when I'm on cycle. Even before I've started getting results. I don't think they can actually smell it, but they have some kind of spidey sense that turns their heads.
