The major cause of atherosclerosis is not some magic ratio or level of cholesterol containing particles in the blood. It's inflammation caused by a range of things. Clean diet is going to clean most of that up unless your cholesterol is very high like >300. The cholesterol treatments rolled out in the late 80s and early 90s. By aboiut 2005 independent researchers reported that they were not effective. Years following all the adverse events and side effects came out. Unfortunately they are such a money maker the Medical Industrial Complex continues to push them.

Eat as close to the earth as possible. Stay away from seed oils and fat that have been modified. All processed foods are out. Fresh meats, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, butter, olive oil. etc etc. The more crap you put into your body the more inflammation. You're probably doing most of what I listed above. If so your doc is just chasing numbers. Or just believe the narrative and take your pills and forget about it. I really don't care. Your health your choice. After all, we here are all on androgens so I am not some saintly figure. I'm just relating what I have seen being a funded scientist for 30 years.

Dunno.
I was faced with either having to start on statins or be willing to do the research and come up with my own way of lowering my LDL.
Since all that I have read indicates that statins would be a last ditch effort because of all the side effects, I decided to do the research.
For me, my breakthrough was finding out that LDL is not a measurement but rather, a calculation based on HDL and triglycerides.
(total cholestreral - HDL - TG/.5 = LDL)

First out the door was anything that produces a large amount of triglycerides like starches, sugars and even peas and corn. I no longer drink alcohol so that was out of the equation a long time ago.
Next thing I did was add 300mg of niacin and 1000mg of citrus bergamot to my daily witches brew which is known to raise HDL.

Long story short, my last bloods were great and the threat of getting a scrip for some sort of statin was off the table.
Citrus Bergamot lowered my ldl from 150 to 70. Did nothing for HDL though. I have found berberine to work just as well as I got an allergic reaction to citrus bergamot.

If I had known about the benefits of niacin I would have started using it yrs. ago. I had been hounding my Primary about my high LDL levels and his first reply was lets try a diet change and see what happens. I knew nothing would change as my diet was as good as it was gonna get. However, I waited till my next blood test and LDL was the same along with low HDL. I asked for a script for a statin as I knew it was just a matter of time if I didn't. He never called it in and over the next 10 yrs. he kept avoiding it. I moved to L.V. and had by-pass surgery. My sister was still seeing him and when she told him I had bypass surgery she said he had a look on his face like OH FUCK!!! What really pisses me off on top of medical incompetence is not one of all the Dr's and specialists said anything about using niacin. They love COQ10 which guess is a good heart supp but apparently not to the degree of niacin. I ordered some niacin from Amazon but it takes a couple wks to come in. They got plenty of the 'no flush' brands! I stopped the Lipitor and am now taking 20mg of Crestor eod. Ive seen Dr's on Y.T. that recommend taking statins eod as they say its just as effective with less sides. The joint pain is gone. I'll start the niacin and continue with the Crestor until my next blood test and go from there.
Niacin is not fun! Tried it. The flush is horrible! And my understanding is that’s the only kind that works. Citrus bergamot, Berberine and EPA is all you need imo. Throw in some nattokinase and your heart will thank you.

I was told the no flush kind doesn’t work for cholesterol.

Looking back at your original post has anything changed in lifestyle diet supplements? Are you on a low cholesterol diet? Was wondering if you take any EFAs as well like Omega 3s etc.? My dad has terrible pain with lipitor. It settled down but he had added some more fats in the diet and lipid levels stayed the same. I hope you get some relief soon.
Especially EPA! Better for cholesterol and triglycerides. DHA can actually raise it from my understanding. Just make sure u get in more EPA than DHA is what I do. Carlson’s makes an Elite EPA that has 1000mg of EPA per soft gel.

Im not on any androgens and havent been for years, quit trt in 2014-2015 and my total test is over 500… tested in September of this year…

So fresh fruits, meats and veggies

What about carbs

No on canola oils. Carbs should be clean, adjust with your blood work with eyes on triglycerides, A1c and fasted glucose for starters. Great job on the TRT exit. Nice mid range number. That should be a lesson to the younger crew out there.
