I don't think many will get your play on words, but I did. Clever girl.

I play with words, therefore I am. As to the spam reference, I think carbo-loading is "so yesterday."
Fat-loading is where it's at by a score of 9.4 - 4.0 ........ which is why I praise, or fry, Spam.

Meanwhile, in my other post, the link mentions the possibility of Bird flu affecting Humans but there's too many of them already imo. It assures us that pasteurized milk will be ok, but raw milk not so much. What I was wondering about was a possible surge in beef (no pun intended) prices. IIRC, the previous egg + chicken price surge was due in part to chickens being killed by Bird Flu but also by poultry farmers slaughtering their chickens to stop the spread of that year's BIrd Flu.

The lord works in mysterious ways.

Food prices are wild right now, and it’s like everything’s getting smaller or costing more. Even basics like chips feel like a rip-off lately.

How about the cost of eggs???? Almost $5 a dozen here. We quit eating eggs. Not going to pay that much.

$5 = 72g of the most bioavailable protein, 60g of incredibly nutritious fats, and no carbs or preservatives or colors or flavors or anything else at all.

I’d pay $10 for a steak all day, and it would have similar stats.

Just saying, we were spoiled when good eggs were cheap, but we still get great return on a dozen eggs, even if they were closer to $10.

Here is how my cheap ass figures things........:)

Now Whey isolate 10lbs - $113
162 servings
25g/serving
0 - carbs

Whey protein isolate typically has a more abundant supply of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), especially leucine than eggs. Whey protein isolate is highly bioavailable. Egg offers good digestibility, although it may be have slightly lower bioavailability compared to whey protein isolate due to its slower digestion rate.

10lbs = 4050 grams of protein

Cost per gram - $0.028/g

I did the same cost analysis with my weight gainer since I need a lot of calories. Much cheaper for me to depend on supplements. Might not make a bit of difference but I gave the food producers the finger a long time ago. Hell, my wife bought 2 dozen eggs today and $4.17/doz. I'll stick to my when protein shake. Once they come down on prices i will reconsider things. I honestly don't even like eggs that much. Whey protein......mmmmmmmmmmm!

You’re comparing apples to fruit juice flavored water. Can’t compare food to supplements without seriously conflating the issue. After all, my friend, the thread IS titled “Food Prices”.

I’ve never been a big protein powder or supplement guy, and for the last few years, save a tub here and there, it’s all be whole food. I don’t want the other stuff that comes with the protein, and I DO want the fats and accoutrements that come with the whole protein source. I eat about a dozen eggs a day most days. That’s my first meal and it feels like a snack now for the last few years. I can maintain 280 and fairly lean without any protein powder and with a moderate budget for good foods.

To each his own. I just can’t help but defend my eggs. But my brother is like you. If bone broth is on sale, he’ll buy it all and that’s his protein source for a week. Same goes for any protein at all. If it’s on sale, he’ll figure out how to smoke it or render it or grill it or otherwise prepare it for eating. He just sent me a pic the other day of his kids trying pig intestines after he told them they were little hollow hotdogs. He’s got money too. Just doesn’t see the point of spending it on “fancy” food.

Yea, this isn't for everyone. I get most of my nutrients from pills. I have never really enjoyed eating but need a huge amount of calories to not lose weight. I eat 6 meals a day and have no problem drinking most all in a shake. My wife is the opposite, she still eats her meat and eggs and hates supplements and pills. I was cooking more until grocery prices started going up so much. Supplements are just more appealing to me. So I do eat 3 small meals/day but have 2 weight gainers(morning/afternoon) and 3 whey protein shakes. Thank goodness milk prices are still acceptable because I go through maybe 3-4 gal/wk. SAD, when I weighted 275-295 I had to eat over 10,000cal/d. Ate until I wanted to puke. Pig intestines? My wife calls those chinchulin. She loves them but I will not touch food like that.

I have a small chicken farm. I get about 8 - 10 fresh eggs a day. One of the most nutritious foods IMHO. Plus I use their manure as fertilizer for my garden, which is about 600 ft sq. The pandemic non-sense made me into a hobbyist farmer I guess.

Holy crap, under $3 doz here. I think last I paid $2.69 or close to it. Some times they have them for $.99 a doz on sale with a coupon. I buy the max as i eat eggs a lot. For $4 I can get the fancy cage free range eggs. I cannot tell a diff so I do not. I do buy local eggs from time to time for the same price. they, I can tell a diff as they eat bugs and all sorts of chicken edible things.
