If you have the correct grip and form feel free to go heavy. IE: 3 plate sets on these are common for a lot of people with fb work sets in the 3 plate range. Hell its a staple movement for mass/strength for many. Form and knowing your range is important. My close grip isnt far off my regular bench. I have a bad elbow and with proper form can still do these.

I go shoulder width with regular bar, and will sometimes go closer using a neutral grip on a football or swiss bar.

It all depends on whats comfortable to YOU bro.I always like to change my grip up and will go xtra wide and extra close where my thumbs can touch each other. But again, this is dependent on weights being lifted, exercise, and your range of motion.

Do what feels best to you and change up regularly.

I go as close as about 6" apart but usually about shoulder width

I place my hands over my nipples.

Bro.....it's getting awkward...

Do a Diamond pushup when it's comfortable then straighten your palms. Gives a perfect gap for close bench grip
