Personal.. I dont plan cheat meals, they just happen for me and my cheats are clean. Like i just had steak, egg whites and oatmeal at the diner thats a cheat for me
My cheat is whatever I want and it's not clean.... It could be a couple burgers with a ton of fries and a shake. It could be a pizza and wings. It could be anything. It could be breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Just make it what your body is craving. Planning it post work out would be great. However, just be sure it is a cheat meal. Not a cheat day. Not rocket science.
For me during a long contest prep my body will just hit the wall depleted bad. A cheat meal helps get my mind back in the game for sure. Often my wife will say "I think someone needs a cheat meal" She will make me a clean pizza and some cake. The next day I feel better.
Nothing fried but g-damn, I can polish off an XL pizza with a couple of beers in one sitting.....that's my go-to.....usually happens when I'm having a bad day/weekend.
I usually have 2-3 cheat meals a week. Outta 42 meals this isn't too bad in my opinion. It all depends on what my body is telling me like gotclen stated.
One of my cheats is post work out on leg day. Usually a 16 oz KC strip medium rare, cottage cheese, loaded baked potato and salad with ranch dressing.
