63 yo and struggling. Iron is the main focus of my life, but the routine of old is not conducive to the age anymore unfortunately.

God feeling like such a lightweight anymore is a depressing thing that constantly consumes a man’s thoughts. Everyone says lifting lighter will help which I have no doubt will, and which I have followed this advice. But needing advice from actual age equivalent guys would help. Thanks, stone

Bro, I turn 72 this year. You absolutely have to get over that feeling of old stuff. There is a competitive bodybuilder in my gym who is in his mid-40s. He tells me all the time I do too much for my age, he says I should be there 3 days a week for 45 minutes. I am there 5 days a week for 45 minutes each day, going 15-20 sets total. Old, I am still going strong. I used to idolize the way Dave Draper looked when he was 76. Hell, I am almost there and look more muscular. Light lift? I go 15 -20 sets of 8 reps on every muscle group. Tried that light shit and lost too much size, I go as heavy as I can on 2 of the 5 sets. Lifting lighter weight depressing, what is not depressing is I am still there going 5 days a week and still trying to look good. We are all going to get old sooner or later; you either get over it and do the best you can, or you can just lie down and die. Let me tell you this, at one time, I had a 525lb bench press in a powerlifting contest. Years later, with osteoarthritis in one shoulder and shoulder replacement surgery in the other, I do good to bench 185lbs for 8 reps. I don't see too many in the gym doing the same, and I am much older.

Weight lifting helps with depression by improving brain chemistry, reducing stress and inflammation, and building a sense of routine, confidence, and control.

headed to 60 right off here , 4 days a week , follow my own programming which is a mix of Doug Hepburn , Fred Hatfield , Louie Simmons and Vince Anello , still compete , still setting records .... nothing kills you until you give it permission , tell old age to eat a bag of dicks :cool:

I'm 58, I still try to focus on "progress." Is that more weight? Not too often. But it might be another rep, and less time between sets. Just try to keep that intensity high. And good nutrition is more important now than ever. Whatever training you do, at least fuel it to get the most out of it.

Good luck and don't be discouraged! Us old farts got to keep fighting the good fight.

60 here few months ago, time under tension, DIET is number 1 at this age, it never was for me until I got old a few weeks ago..lol
I always trained really fucking hard.
Now I train 6 days a week and crank like a motherfucker but much lighter weights, HIGH protein, LOW doses and cardio everyday.
Heart issues are the #1 killer for our age group.
Seriously you need less compounds than most think, and do balance exercises and stretching like your life depends on it, because the QUALITY of your life does.
Work smarter and harder and don't make excuses, life will give ya plenty without making em up.

Turning 50 soon. When I am on point I get to the gym 5 days a week 1 hour and fifteen minutes for weights and 15-20 cardio 3 days a week. I am lucky here cause my job has me walk around 10 miles a day five days a week .
