Well, it looks like I'll be joining the hip replacement club. I've seen the PA and didn't really like the guy, but I'm hurting like hell and he may have been having a bad day. I see the surgeon Thursday and hopefully can get something scheduled soon.

The PA blew it when he scripted one my meds. He wrote Tramadol (an SNRI) and I am already using Elavil for cluster headaches and nerve pain from a past C- spine surgery. Those 2 meds are definitely contraindicated.

Had a not so nice hypotension reaction on the second day so I threw the Tramadol in the apocalypse stash.

Finished the run of Toradol and am currently taking 15 mg of Meloxicam daily. The Meloxicam doesn't seem to do much : it's about as effective as unflavored Pez. I want even talk about the amount of Tylenol he wanted me taking, but it doesn't matter, my old guts won't tolerate it.

I had several pectineus strains and one small tear recently; just a small pop and then about 2 weeks for the small area of bruising to abate. I'm kind of leaning towards the pectineus issues being tied to the hip issue now. I'm still wearing a groin muscle support; it is about the only way I can get around and make it through my shifts at work.

I'm still working, but having problems with the hip joint "sticking" when I walk. I see that most of you guys had a positive experience, so I'm hoping for the same.

Report from the Xrays below.

My OP won't go in for bone spurs. He said they come back in a year or two depending on what caused them. I asked, What caused mine? He said, I don't know. Well where did fuuk I go with that? If you don't know what caused them, how can you say they will come back. Maybe it was 2 decades of squatting reps with over 500 lbs. Well I'm not doing that now so...

It’s basically arthritis ……..caused by some damage.Over the years.
Get a different doctor that will treat the problem ,They’re out there!

Not really. The lack of articular cartilage is allowing the ball and socket to wear on each other, hence the occasional sticking.

There is no treating the problem other than trying an ultrasound guided injection or joint replacement when the cartilage is gone.

The first ortho I saw offered to try the injection, but only gave it a 3 out of 10 chance of working.

I think old age (62) is just catching up to me.

No. See my previous response.
When the new stem, ball, and socket are installed, all of the wear surfaces will new.

The bone spurs are a very small part of the issue.
The "complete collapse of the superior femoral joint space" is the main problem.

If I don't like the surgeon when I see him Thursday, I am moving on to another Ortho.

So far, his PA is an idiot.

Finally, after several burps, hiccups, farts, and misfires, I got my hip replacement done today! I'm settled in my room, took an Oxy, ate supper (which was surprisingly good), filled up the p!ss bottle, and stood up on my feet.

Huge relief! The first attempt had to be aborted, and led to a visit with my cardiologist, nuclear stress test, chest scan, etc.
