I have had two hernias appear during a heavy (well heavy by my crappy standard) squat. I know that they are likely to have been there for some time. So I saw the general practitioner and he referred me on but the appointment is not until February. How many of you blokes have them and continue to train heavy without issue?

Bro I had a belly button hernia and trained with it for two to three years, even doing heavy work, before it started to get noticeably large. My doctor told me so long as it didn't hurt real bad I was probably safe, but the real risk is part of your intestine can push through and within a day become septic. So he said if I experienced serious pain to not delay in seeing the doctor about it because I could die quickly if those conditions existed.

Once I had the hernia fixed (during an out patient operation) it took 6 weeks before I was allowed to lift again and 8 weeks before I could do squats and heavy lifts. Now a year and a half later you wouldn't even guess I ever had one.

Haha yes I am here. Don't believe the bs put out about me.

Nah man a blind man could see there's hidden agendas going on. Personally I got no idea wtf those agendas are, but I can spot weird behaviour from a mile. Hope you're well and stick around, folks here are awesome. Merry Christmas!!

Same as Woody. Umbilical hernia...same recovery time. I asked the surgeon if I would be able to squat 600 after the surgery. He said yes but give the recovery time its due. I said good because I've never squated that before! Good laugh.

What I recall is...As soon as I knew I had it I moved toward repair. Never messed around by trying to "work" with it. Get it fixed brother!

I dont lift but had an inguinal hernia. Had the local-anaesthetic mesh way of repair. I don't know what your pain threshold is but the next day is interesting to say the least once the painkillers wear off. Anyway, was told to walk a mile the next day (Yeh right) but within 10 days I was riding my motorbike again, with some slight discomfort, and fit to fly again after 2 weeks. Mine was caused by moving heavy oil drums around. 2 yrs later it still hurt slightly sometimes but that was a long time ago now and it's never bothered me since.

Specialist says hernias are not something to be ignored due to how serious they can get quickly. The quicker it's sorted the less problems you'll have later on.

Had my umbilical repaired in June. I had it for 2 years and the appearance bothered me but I didn't want to quit lifting to recover. But then a few times after eating it would get stuck out and be slightly painful. The problem is it can cut off circulation to your intestines and that tissue can die. Then you will be in some trouble. Id get it repaired. I was out of the gym for 3-4 weeks. back to heavy lifting in 6-7 weeks. No gains lost!!!

I used to lift and plan to again but various things in my life (way more serious than some training regimen ) had to take priority. That ok with you? What about all the new guys wanting to start training looking for the best forum for info and advice? Dear me man, take you're head out of your ass.

Oh and Happy New Year :)
