I like Dorian Yates no matter what he does or says. however here is the NFL's policy on the use of cannibus:
- THC testing threshold: A positive test for THC (the main psychoactive compound in cannabis) now requires a level of 300+ ng/ml,
- This is a substantial increase from the previous 150 ng/ml limit (and even higher from earlier thresholds). Below this level, use generally doesn't trigger penalties.
- Penalties for positives: Instead of suspensions (which were eliminated for cannabis around 2020–2021), violations now result in fines that are much lower than before. For example:
- First offense: Around a $15,000 fine.
- Second: Around $20,000.
- Further offenses escalate to game-check fines but avoid outright suspensions in most cases.
- Testing: All players get at least one annual test under the Substances of Abuse (SOA) policy, which does not test for THC in the standard annual group test. However, players can be tested more frequently if in certain programs, and some percentage of performance-enhancing substance tests may include THC. Testing is reduced during the season compared to past years, with a narrower window.
- Synthetic cannabinoids: These remain fully prohibited at any level.
While the NFL has backed off its policy, they still test, and urine THC-COOH levels are among the many drugs tested for. So they are not allowing it, just kind of turning their backs on some minimal use, especially during the off season. Workign in the strip clubas as long as I did, pot is the least concern the NFL, as I have witnessed some big name players doing lines of cocaine off the table and watched them stagger out the front door at the end of the night.
Now the NBA is a completely different animal......cannabis has been removed from the list of prohibited/banned substances. The MLB also does not test for it.
WADA, cannabis (marijuana), and cannabinoids are prohibited in-competition only. I have no reason to believe that as we continue to decriminalize cannibus the use will increase, and use in athletes will be more and more accepted. This may sound weird, but I think all drugs should be removed from drug bands in sports and all criminal penalties for drug use and possession should be removed. Prohibition has never worked. Most in the NFL know well when they will be tested and clean up in time. Some are stupid fucks that can't figure it out and get suspended and fined.
Anyway, thanks for putting up that video.
