Gotta love when the freedom loving types in here suggest cracking down on the media and support police brutality.

I agree but there is so much more

the main difference between a democracy & a republic lies in the limits placed on government by the law which the people select
Both forms of government tend to use a citizens vote to elect politicians to adhere to their interests. In a republic, a constitution/ charter of rights protects certain inalienable rights that cannot be taken away by the government, even if it has been elected by a majority of voters. In a real democracy the majority is not restrained in this way and can impose its will....Most modern nations are democratic republics with a constitution, which can be amended by a popularly elected government by the people

so all we can say is a democracy is where the majority rules and a republic is where we have a constitution/charter that protects the minority from being over run
we are becoming more and more a representative democracy(we really are with a Constitution) But also a REPUBLIC article 4 sec 4

lol rem China is a REPUBLIC also

I believe Obama was being more of a dictator for a group of people---using his power (given to him) and Trump is trying or doing the same just in a different direction
    only time will tell

and a change of subject ......we had a local softball team (16-18) girls----one girl was just killing it ---22homeruns in 10games ---scoring over 70% of her teams runs
they won the regional last week .....now a protest is going on

    why??? u say

well the 18yr old girl at 6'2 is a preop transgender ----still a male in my books---yet identified as female

    so is it cheating???

    Who are you referring to?

The original intent of the media was to allow them to report on the government, exposing truths and informing the public, without consequences. When the media slanders, is guilty of libel and defamation of character, should we be ok with that? Shouldn't the American people bee able to set our standards higher for the media, where we get such valuable information from? If you don't agree, then you must love being constantly being misinformed. We protect the media so that they can expose the truth, not break the law and destroy people's lives. Lastly, all I said was that the media must now reap what it sewed during the election campaigns. They tried so hard to destroy everything for the right, and it backfired on them and now we have someone in office that is way more extreme than all of the other candidates. Does that sound like a productive media?

As far as police brutality goes, that's a broad sweep. I Have take both sides, depending on the circumstance. I have worked the streets of the inner city, and it's complete shit. You're dealing with a LOT of bat shit crazy people. 90% of these situations involve gangster thugs trying to instigate problems and the mentally ill. Nothing is ever clear cut. Nothing is ever easy. Nothing is ever as it seems on video because people edit the vids before they post them and/or film only what they need to create bias.

I am not sure why some continue to look back at the Obama administration and use that as an excuse for Trumps behavior or policy changes. Obama is not the President anymore, what he did during his 8 years doesnt apply to what Trump is doing or not doing today. Currently (as in RIGHT NOW) the Trump administration has locked up an innocent hacker. The debate should be on Trumps policies, not Obama, Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon policies....

Actually this is not accurate. Trump is having to spend the majority of his time undoing the last 8 years. It will likely take him at least one term just to undo the damage done by the last administration.

I'm one of those awful "freedom loving types" you speak of. Cracking down on media is fascism and the left is all about it. If it does not go along with their agenda it gets shut down. No free speech. Ppl like me are not against the media, we are against the HUGE left slant to literally everything. It became so obvious during the last election they stopped even trying to pretend to be fair and unbiased. As for police brutality, I don't think anyone is for it. We just don't feel too sorry for some asshole who happens to be on the receiving end of it. Just my 2 cents.

Really? Didn't I see you blaming Bush for a lot of stuff while Obama was in office? Pretty sure I did. In fact, I saw a lot of that all the way up to about year 6 or 7 in Obama's presidency.

We are speaking of two different ideologies here too. I am referring to government overreaching and presidents using the example of the last president to increase their power and how much they get involved with matters that they should not be a part of. At the very core, I believe that the constitution should be the ONLY thing a president should be worried about, enforcing and upholding it's word. I don't care if it's a right or left wing president. Bush is SUPER guilty of this too. The Patriot Act? My God, that is horribly unconstitutional, but yet, no one has attempted to over turn it.

Well if your unhappy with the Partiot Act, Trump is your man to attempt to overturn it....

But again this has nothing to do with the current administration going after hacker....

Ever hear of Kevin Mitnick or his story? The government has long held people on trumped up charges if they really wanted to. Its hardly related to any one administration or any one political ideology.

I know there has been a great backlash against the media the past decade or so, but I don't know of any "crackdown". If you are referring to Sessions insinuating they would investigate leaks that is because there are leaks of classified information and the media is publishing it. Its been long discussed and debated in classrooms and courtrooms and its very clear that the First Amendment doesn't give you the right to break the law or incite chaos. Trump maybe leans a little left at times, but not near enough and not supportive of socialism enough to be ever considered a fascist.

He was guilty, but he was also held for a long time on minimal charges, and also was in solitary just because they were afraid he would do some hack unless he was "quarantined". He was treated pretty brutally for what he really did.

He wrote a book on his story and I heard the audio version a few years back. He was a good hacker but most of his best stuff was just calling up and fooling people into granting him access to things or getting enough info "social engineer" an intrusion.
