PLAINVILLE- Police say a local man was arrested Saturday on possession of steroids charges after falsely reporting a burglary last year.
Gregory Brown, 23, of 35 Conlon St., Bristol, was arrested Saturday charged with three counts of possession of steroids, two counts of possession with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a weapon in a car and second-degree breach of peace.
Lt. Eric Peterson, police spokesman, said the arrest stems from a May 2012 incident when Brown, who was living at 66 Atwood St. in Plainville at the time, ran out of his condo and stopped a passing FedEx truck driver. Brown told the driver two men had broken into his home and tried to rob him, Peterson said.
When interviewing Brown, police believed he was under the influence of marijuana and was hallucinating, Peterson said. While searching the condo for intruders, police found marijuana and nine vials of steroids, Peterson said. The marijuana was packaged for sale in small bags and the quantity found led police to believe he was selling it, Peterson said.
Police also found Brown’s Jeep Cherokee parked improperly in the parking lot, with both the doors left open, Peterson said. Police found a machete with a 16-inch cutting edge on the front passenger seat, Peterson said.
Peterman said the delay in charging Brown was a result of sending the steroids to a state testing laboratory to confirm what the drugs were.
Brown was released after posting a $25,000 bond and is due in Bristol Superior Court on May 13.
