Now if people want to be gay, then fine. But I'm not a Nazi for wanting to prevent the sexualization of children. Exposing children to this stuff at the age of 8 is inappropriate. However, the book is not banned. Mom and dad can buy this book off of Amazon and give it to their minor children to read. Of course, the whole point of putting it in the library is to skirt the authority of the parents and expose kids to these sexual topics at an ever earlier age and in a way that encourages it.

And if you think the MSM is evil, google the topic and every headline incorrectly accuses opponents of banning books.

My mother was the town librarian. She was open and liberal and well a bit of a biker hippy but I can't see her keeping a book like this in the library. If this was part of the inventory it would of been in an adult section behind the counter back then with the nude photography books and sex ed stuff .. not out on a shelf for just any kid to pick up and stare at for sure.

Agreed. That used to be the way such books were handled. Sadly, these are getting "slipped" into school libraries. I don't want to be the church lady and be a prude, but real men protect children, and minor children today are being sexualized more and more, and children need our protection.

Here are portions of the book "Gender Queer" that were NOT banned. Rather, parents wanted this book to not be available to elementary school students at their school library, and at the town Public Library.

Ok here's some of the skinny on this that i've dug up.

This book appeared on a recommended reading list for educators by the NEA , the nations largest teachers union.

About a month later during an episode of the Faulkner Focus on Fox , they ran a chyron that said
"Gender Queer on NEA Summer Reading List for Kids"

Again this book was in a list for educators not students originally.

The book itself was written by Maia Kobabe and was written from the perspective of their own journey of "self discovery" .. wonderful ....

This is one of the articles I've found covering it from Poynter

Apparently what happened was , this book won several awards and became some type of gender queer manifesto.

After winning awards and becoming popular with the so many of the teachers ,, it was the teachers and school boards that decided to put it into the school libraries.

The reason it has been removed from so many isn't the "queerness" or the story of self discovery.

It's been removed simply because its been deemed too graphic to be in a school library.

And I agree !!

I got no problem with gay folks ,, but I dont want my grand kids being at school and looking at what is basically pornography.

I find it fascinating that Hollywood forgives some people, but not others. I swear, Hollywood is like Junior High mean girls. LOL

Ran some numbers on GPT earlier. I had GPT check census information regarding GenZ demographics and voting likelihood. I'm curious about whether the theory (which I hold) than Gen Z will be a large and mostly unaccounted for voter block in 2024, holds water. The most left leaning generation in America history's numbers:

To estimate how many members of Gen Z (those born from 1997 to 2012) came of age between 2020 and 2024, we look at the subset of Gen Z who reached the age of 18 during this period. Those turning 18 between 2020 and 2024 were born between 2002 and 2006, inclusive.

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that there were about 3.7 to 4 million births per year during this time range, meaning that approximately:

18.5 to 20 million Gen Z individuals turned 18 between 2020 and 2024 in the United States alone. Gen Z voter registration rates have shown strong growth, with reports indicating that around 50-55% of eligible Gen Z voters were registered in recent election cycles. This rate has been influenced by both increased political engagement and outreach efforts that target younger voters.

In the 2020 U.S. presidential election, about 53% of Gen Z was registered to vote, and approximately 49% of registered Gen Z voters turned out to cast a ballot, showing both high registration and participation rates among those newly eligible. This group helped propel Biden to victory.

Gen Z is highly motivated by specific issues, such as climate change, social justice, economic equality, and reproductive rights. These issues resonate strongly among Gen Z voters and drive both voter turnout and activism.

Gen Z has a significant online presence and is highly adept at using social media for mobilization. This skill in digital activism and organizing online campaigns means that Gen Z can amplify their voices and influence public opinion quickly, potentially leading to unexpected shifts in voter sentiment.

With millions of Gen Z individuals coming of age each year, their voter base is expanding rapidly. By 2024, this demographic is expected to account for about one in ten eligible voters in the U.S., meaning their votes could have a substantial impact on election outcomes, especially in battleground states where even small shifts in turnout can be decisive.

^^^^ Will be interesting to see if this theory plays out. My daughter falls in this age group, and when we were visiting her in Chicago last month she started talking politics with us (I never bring up politics with family!)

It was interesting. She voted for Biden in 2020, and she indicated she was voting Republican in 2024 (funny, she had to qualify her comments by saying she wishes Trump wasn't such an ass! LOL) When I asked her why, it was two things: inflation and the border. Things have gotten a LOT more expensive for young people right out of school over the past 4 years (groceries, gas, utilities, rent, etc), and places like Chicago have tons of homeless people and immigrant crime spikes due to the wide-open border. I don't know if she's representative or not, but it was interesting to hear her thoughts.

She actually said: "I feel like the Dems manipulated by empathy." I'm glad she has empathy, but also glad that she's learning to think more critically as well. I think it's good that we all have both.
