I can honestly say this bothers me too. But I don't make the rules on the shutdown. If the executive says it is all shut down, even private businesses in the national parks and museums, then that is what happens.
But with federal employees being laid off, how can they prevent folks from using the open spaces? They just don't have the manpower to do that.
I wish it could all be left open, but you can imagine how much property damage would occur if the doors, gates and parking lots were left open with no one to monitor the closed facilities (i.e. babysit the public).
Woodwise do you actually read anything but headlines? All these ''poor federal employees'' are on VACATION!!!1 They are getting back pay for every vminute off work!! WTH??!! Your attitude ''BABY SIT THE PUBLIC'' is exactly what liberal\socialists want you to think. I dont know about you but I dont want govt in any part of my life other than the 2 things they're supposed to do. Provide a national defense and interstate commerce period. What exactly do parks employees do that is so critical? Clean the toilets , pick up garbage..why can't private companies do it? What would you rather use in these instances.. a public restroom or a private restroom, a private doctor\hospital or a public clinic, send your kid to a public school or a private school?

We are about to go into unknown territory of not honoring our debt when The Teapublicans block raising the debt ceiling, and you guys are worried about whether the WWII memorial was shut down appropriately versus an immigration protest being held on open lawns????

You say the country in trouble would you say $17 trillion is trouble with a $100 trillion dollar in unfunded mandates???? the govt is not shutdown, 85% of the govt is operating, the rest is discretional. We have had dozens of shutdowns WW, you're stil lwet behind the ears so the sky is falling for you. This thee 1st time any monuments or parks have been shutdown,,Wonder why????
