what is your best 40 time? Also what is a reasonable/average 40 yard dash time?

I used to do the 40 in around 4.7, now I would be lucky to hit 5.2 :)

I think anything under 4.8 is respectable.

A reasonable 40 time is dependant on age, weight and athletic prowess. WhenI was 18 I ran a 4.7 at 240 lbs and was not even close to the upper end of the people I played football with. Now with that said I had a 35" vertical jump and, this put me in the top 7 or 8 on the team. Funny thing was, I coul takeone to two steps and dunk a basketball. I could not dunk a basketball on the move while bringing the ball in. Must have been a coordination issue haha.

4.2? Really? The fastest 40 time in NFL combine history is 4.24. Somehow, I'm skeptical.

The best I ever ran was a 4.57 at 6'2" and 235 lbs. Now I can still get after it but I'd be lucky to break 4.9 and would have to stretch a lot before ;)

I know I've mentioned this before, but a lot of us could really benefit from sprinting. I think under 4.80 is a great time and it does depend on your height and weight. Taller guys generally don't do as well in the 40 yard dash but can be really good 100m runners because the longer legs allow them to make up ground quickly.

I ran a 4.2 (something) hand Timed by my couch. Ran a 10.49 in the 100 and a 21.89 (on a red dog track) in the 200. I still hold the State record with a 21.98 for the 200. When I started college My Couch told me he could get me under 10 for the 100 ( Just by working on blocks more), but shit got screwed up with my credits and I landed a good job. So I never pushed it hard enough to get back into in school.

The fastest 40 time in the NFL is 4.15 handtimed

4.7 for me when I was a senior in highschool. Weighed..135 and was 5'10". 100..10.4 and 220..22.3 and the 440 (showing my age) 53.9 (High school Senior in 1976!) Now...If I can walk to the mail box in under 5 mins I am good to go! (OK..really can run. Just haven't had too and am still kind of quick on my feet. Just no endurance!)

BTW...Vertical Jump. I could stand under the basket and dunk a volleyball. Would of been a basketball but couldn't palm it!

Fastest combine time, official, is 4.24 by Chris Johnson of the Titans.

After reading those I'm thinking I didn't have a 4.2 40 now. So I have no clue now. Many of those 4.2 guys ran 10.0's and under for the 100. I never made it that low for the 100. So doubt I could have ran a 4.2.

I'm so tall and have such long legs that I never ran a 40 yard dash, but my senior year in track I ran 400 meters in 51.something, it was my best time. I wasn't fast off the line, but once I got going, I'd usually pass other runners. rt...

My son tried out for a college soccer team and clocked 4.6. They were looking for 4.5. Bummer
