I get this error message when I try to boot my computer.

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

I only need to access windows once in order to save some files I need. Then I will just format if needed. I have the XP disk. Is there a way to somehow fix this or maybe copy files to a usb from the command prompt?

id u try to do a repair? Boot up the computer and keep pressing the F8 key as soon as u turn on the PC. When the menu comes up select the "Repair my computer" option and follow the onscreen instructions. If it turns out your Hard drive is shot, pull out the hard drive and put it in a docking station. From there you can view the files on the hard drive and pull off what you need IF the hard drive is not too corrupted, If you need help we can work something out and I can do it for you bro. Let me know how this works out for you.

You only need the OS disc to run the repair mode bro. You do not have to have online access.
