Why Do We Wait Soo Long...?

Why after an injury do we wait so long to go get it checked out?
I understand if you don't have insurance, but for those of us that do, there are few legitimate reasons to wait.
Maybe its just cause I'm older, or maybe its because of the number of surgeries I have had that I feel so differently about going to a specialist now, then how I used to feel about it. (I've had 7 surgeries. Some from years of abuse, some from fighting and competing, others from a 2,000lb vehicle t-boning me on my bicycle)

Is it our egos?
Is it fear of not being able to train/downtime?
Is it the expense?
Is it just something rooted deep in our psyche from the teenage years (you know...man the fuk up like many of us were told)?

Took me eight shoulder dislocations to finally see a doctor. My excuse is I didn't want to be kicked out of my current job. Last dislocation tore my labrum and chipped away a good amount of cartilage. He surgery sept of 2011.

Now since last Dec I have had a supposed AC joint sprain in my other shoulder. Was told it will subside in about a month taking it easy. Well its been months and now im waiting to get an MRI because its not getting better.

I would call it pride. I know its stupid and we jeopardize our health but sometimes we think we can push through it or it will get better without a doc.

I think Most of us don't till we realize we do get old and are not immortal ! lol

5 weeks to get my broken wrist looked at and diagnosed. 3 fractures. Possibly mostly ego. Just thought it would be fine and heal on its own. I was wrong, it took way longer to heal and am still having problems with it.
