So for me and 99.99% of Americans this doesn't mean shit and if you have a company that has been importing packages less than $800 bucks then WTF are you selling and or making a year?

You are somewhat correct, LG. I actually half agree with Trump on this issue.

Here's the problem as it affects me. Lets say me or my suppliers import a pallet or (my suppliers) a cargo container load of parts from China. We have to pay the tariffs. The amount we import can never be as small as $800. For me alone it would be at least $10,000. For my suppliers bringing in containers it will surely be $200,000+. There is no escaping tariffs. So me or my suppliers have to pay the tariff.

But, many sellers (especially Amazon Chinese sellers) were bringing in say $750 every other day. They are purposely timing their split shipments to land just under $800. Instead of large shipments like most American companies would make to resupply, they would bring in hundreds of small shipments to escape de minimis. These are prepacked in China with Amazon bar codes and go straight to FBA fulfillment centers. This was clearly hurting American companies. De Minimis ends the era of super cheap Amazon and eBay goods.

In this I agree with Trump. There has to be a way to make the field level.

I just disagree with Trump on De Minimis affecting somebody bringing in some one off item. I really wish Trump had made De Minimis tariffs so the quantity of items AND the amount of the shipment. Or figured out a way to limit shipments to a certain amount. I don't know. I'm not an expert, but there must be a solution?

Personally, the de minimis is helping my little business. The Chinese sellers have had to raise their prices. Bad for consumers, good for me!

I think this whole tariffs issue will eventually end up in the Supreme Court. Although the Supreme Court is aligned with Trump on social issues they may shoot down his tariffs. The US constitution is clear about the power to levy tariffs. "The U.S. Constitution, under Article I, Section 8, grants Congress the sole power to lay and collect duties (tariffs) on imports and to regulate foreign commerce."

Excepting emergency. Its going to be hard for Trump to make the emergency argument to a group of pro-business Supreme Court justices.

My little mind thinks the change primarily targets large overseas sellers who’ve been using the $800 loophole to avoid duties on bulk shipments by breaking them into smaller packages. This allowed them to undercut U.S. retailers and small businesses who do pay import fees.

You beat me to it. Damn you, TB.

I do think this will likely negatively impact some of the activities we partake of here amongst ourselves.
I can tell you that this stuff is affecting me directly.

I buy my meds through all day chemist and I have high blood pressure and pretty much shitty health insurance and I have to meet almost $10,000 deductible before I get any coverage for health insurance / drug coverage so I buy stuff through ADC and they are not shipping to the US because of the tariffs because they don't know how to collect and who to pay so they're not shipping anything. I have a couple of medications I have to have as well as my wife does and we can't get what we need. We're pretty much screwed right now. I have maybe a month's worth of prescriptions left.

The price of things are going to go up maybe things will all even out but low income families are going to take a real beating soon and I don't know what's going to happen.

I'm just a small fish. I'm just a typical consumer and it has affected me but the bad part is it's not the financial part it's the health part that scares me. My wife and I work 7 days a week we work anywhere from 12 to 14 hour days we bust our ass everyday and it just kind of pisses us off that we can't just get what we need when we need it. Yes it's on us that we don't have higher paying jobs, yes it's on us that we don't have better health insurance, yes there's a lot of stuff that's on us but we're not the lucky ones that had brakes in life and just have things handed to us. We're just regular folks like millions and millions of others. We just go to work and want to have food on our table and a roof over our head and be able to stay as healthy as we possibly can. I'm hoping it all evens out. I hope there's a long-term game plan that all works out but I have a feeling that the rich are going to get richer and the poor are just going to get wiped out

It’s VERY fucked, and I absolutely empathize. I don’t detail it but things are already fucking me as well…. and that sucks, but I guess I’m in the minority to be affected by the fact that the majority are being fucked. Many (too many I personally feel) don’t give a fuck about others struggles in society so long as they themself are doing ok. That’s beyond descriptive fucking infuriating to me - I FUCKING DESPISE those sort of self-centric numb fucking cunts…. Trump epitomizes the sort actually.

In the industries that I work with some commodities/raw materials just got bumped upwards of 70%, if you don't think that is going to affect consumer pricing I don't know what to tell you, because as an example, we sure don't grow coffee here in the US.

Show all due respect !

Wasn't there some other guy who said, "You can fool some of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time," and then ... something after that?

You deserve health care, brother. Every hard working America does. That is a controversial belief I have. You and your wife are doing everything right and busting your asses. This country owes you. You are holding up your end of the bargain, putting in the work. It's how I see it at least.

Our politicians should not be making your life more difficult!

Every American working person deserves health care.
