Sore quad above knee

Hi every one this is my first post.

I have stated doing weights again after not w/I for about 10 yrs. I do very physical work an so keep fairly fit anyway.

My problem is that after doing close to my max on the leg press my left quad is really sore an stiff. At first I thought was just normal pain from muscle growth but right leg pain has gone away.

It hurts and is stiff about 2 inches above my knee to the outside. There is a lump there right at the bottom of the quad. The inside of knee is swollen too. If I straiten my legs out where quad joins the knee there is a lump which is normal only the one on the left leg is twice as big.

I hope I explained this correctly an any help would be appreciated

Also it doesn't hurt or seem any weaker when I do weights with it though when I fully bend my knee it gets really stiff an if I push on the lump at bottom of quad it hurts and is really tight

Also looking down at my bent knees the sore one is a lot bigger than the other

No clue... Maybe just a knot or something. Try foam rolling the quad to get it to loosen up.

Yeah it's annoying. You no how when you straiten your legs the muscle above your knee sticks out a bit an sort of curves around above the knee cap well that's twice as big as other leg.

At first I thought it was because my left leg is weaker it has to work harder than my right. But it's been about a week now an is still sore an swollen. When I fully bend it it really hurts in a muscle stretching kind of way.

When I did it I didn't feel any pain or anything it wasn't to the next day then it hurt as much as right due to working out. But right leg pain went away an left is still sore, stiff an swollen

I might have to go to the dr if it doesn't get any better.

Try using a liniment lotion on it. I use a really good one from Elite FTS called Jacks hot pink lotion. That stuff heats up and takes away the pain quick. You probably don't have time to receive it quickly enough for your pain, but maybe icing it a lot or buy some icy/hot and throw that on there. Hopefully it gets better.

Any ice, rest, elevation or anti-inflammatory medications?

Do you think I've done something bad or just a minor year in my quad or something like that.

Like I said it doesn't seem to make me weaker or anything. I've worked out since an seemed fine did a 6 km ride an some squats an it seemed fine.

Should I maybe lay off my legs for a week or so though I will miss doing my cardio (I quite enjoy the stationary bike)

Sounds like your fine. If you tore something you would definitely feel it. Just take it easy on leg days and get your body used to working out again bro. Maybe wrap that knee or something next time so it doesn't strain so much.

Thanks that's a relief it doesn't sound like I've done anything to bad.

Haha I'm getting old I suppose at least I'm fighting back a bit by working out.

It sounds like you've got a partial tear of your quads tendon. You probably should see a physiotherapist for initial treatment and if no improvement a sports medicine specialist for further investigation.

Maybe, but he said he squatted fine and did a 6 km ride with no problem. I don't think he'd be doing that if he had a tear, but I'm no doctor.

Yeah like I said no real pain involved other than tightness pain when I bend my knee.

Did squats an 6 km ride like he said and though no direct pain did blow up a bit the next day

I have been icing it today an seems a bit better an has gone down a bit.

If it is a slight tear would I feel pain an be able to do these things. There was no moment when it happened just woke up an was swollen an stiff
