(Not sure if this is proper section for this thread, but here goes)

Does anyone here suffer from GERD? (Gastrointestinal Esophogaus Reflux Disease) SP. I am pretty sure i am dealing with it, not the heart burn or burning sensations in chest, but symptoms are coughing to clear throat, trouble breathing at times, feeling of lump in throat or nasal drip, to name a few. I have been reading alot on the subject also known as Silent Reflux, a d symptoms seem to match right up.

First thing im gonna do is make appointment with doctor or specialist,to be checked out and figure out a plan to beat this shit. Second, im making drastic changes in diet. Cutting out caffeine, cutting waaaay back on chocolate, stop eating fried foods and processed foods, eliminate citrus and tomato based foods, avoid mint... all of these are super high in making acids in your stomach that triggers GERD or Acid Reflux.

Cutting back on chocolate is gonna be the hardest, as many of you know, i have a bad case of eating chocolate with no mercy... im fukked. But seriously, for my healths sake i gotta do what i gotta do. If this shit persists too long it can cause Esophogal Cancer from the esophogal lining being damaged... FUKK THAT!!

SO, anyone been through this or deal with it?

making such a radical change you should be able to keep the chocolate... I recommend heading to walmart picking up 30 days of Nexium OTC and see if it works... It should if that's the problem

Holy shit bro , I was out of commission from this for about 2 weeks !!! Does it hurt when u swallow , like when ur eating and swallow ?
I went to the doctor and she said I had acid reflux disease . She prescribed Nexium 40 mgs a day , u can get it OTC at 21mgs. Just take one first thing in the morn and one at nite.
Then for my esophagus she prescribed a week of Carafate, helps w/ pain upon swallowing and that lump feeling in ur throat .
Thing is I was put on a liquid diet for a week , no chocolate, coffee, citrus, soda, spicy foods, nothing !!! Just str8 bland food, no salt, no fried food, just mashed potatoes, protein shakes, yogurts, soft foods for a week !!! That shit killed me bro !!! I lost at least 10lbs !!! And I was always tired and cranky . But I have to say the shit worked !!!
I still take Nexium from time to time, and tums for excess gas, which def helps w/ GERD !!!
Drink water, lots of water , and when the symptoms subside u can ease back to ur favorite foods, just at moderation bro !!!
If u smoke , STOP!!! No drinking alcohol, beer, nothing bro !!!
Try it for a week and see what happens, trust me man, I feel ur pain , I went thru that shit and it's not fun !!!
Glutamine helps as well bro !!!
Let me know !!!

I had that problem about 2 years ago. I actually developed a lump in my throat. This is a serious problem because it can lead to throat cancer. I went to a nose and throat doctor and he did nothing for me ($300 for 2 visits). I actually found a cure by myself. I visited the site WebMD and found that the problem was the spincter valve at the bottom of the throat was not closing properly. Around the same time I got a script of tramadol hcl for lower back pain. The hcl is a constrictor of soft tissue and it seemed to cause the spincter valve to close better. At any rate, the problem I had for 3 years, all of a sudden cleared up. I believe it was the hcl(hydrochloride) that solved the problem. I am not bothered by it any more. I also use a sleep aid called zzzquil that has diphenhydramine hcl in it. It is made by Nyquil, the cold medicine co. Wall Mart also sells a cheap brand.

For starters I don't recommend getting yourself hooked on any of the OCT's.

That will only mask the problem and eventually make things worse.

I was on them for about 6 months it only masked the problem and coming off OTC's feels like drinking gasoline.

I cured my heartburn problems by quit smoking ,drinking more water, chewing my food properly, eating less and not eating close to bed time.

At any rate the best thing you can do is seek medical attention from a certified medical physician.

Apple Cider Vinegar has all but made anything OTC irrelevant....heartburn used to be almost unbearable before using it....

I usually take 2 Tbspns along with breakfast and dinner....like I said, from my own personal experience, it has all but stopped daily heartburn...shit was bad for me for a while too...waking up from sleep, damn near yacking from the acid reflux itself...tried OTC stuff that got rid of it only while it was being used, but didn't seem like a safe long term alternative...
