Like the title says do you believe in evolution? My friend and I have this conversation at least once every couple of months. My friend believes in god and is a christian. My belief is agnosticism. He says he didn't evolve from some stupid monkey. I tell him aliens made us (specifically Optimus Prime) because it seems to get him worked up. We have this conversation at the bar every time so the alcohol does not help.

I would like to hear what the members of this board believe.

trying to stir up shit again huh? Have you ever started a thread on fitness, bodybuilding, nutrition, supps, diet, workouts etc.?

Life does adapt and evolve but even the most brilliant scientist will ultimately fold when you ask the question, where did life originate? Their answers conclude that microscopic life began on the back of crystals or it was seeded by alien life forms. Evolution is a real and practical theory but its just that a theory that has just as many holes as any other hypothesis.

What is there to believe? There is PROOF!!!! Unlike any fucking bible can provide. What proof is there of god or jesus, NOTHING but here say in a book. Listen up jesus freaks, religion was created by the few to control the many. You're belief without proof = faith. A perfect example would be parents telling their children about Santa. If you're good, you'll get gifts, if you're bad you'll get coal. Sound familiar? I think so.

Then you have the WORST kind of christian. The ones who believe in god and evolution. There as bad as agnostics.

I wish i could simplify my posts like you Zomb. I agree with you 100%. Read the ramblings of me in the same sex marriage thread. This is what it made my brain expel and type about. Based on my POV though. Then I just posted in the hgh peptides insulin forum cant remember the threads name about evolution and tried to explain what I meant exactly but I have a hard time doing that on a computer screen via words. I usually type about experiences I have had or things I have read which creates a new creature everytime I get going lol. Let me stop here. Respectfully,Wake

I don't mind these threads too much, as long as people keep their cool. If people don't agree with you, then so be it, you can still be confident in where you stand. I don't mind people who disagree with me who've actually thought about it. What is more hard to understand is somebody who has strong opinions, yet are ill-informed.

I happen to be a Christian and believe in Intelligent Design. That does NOT mean that I don't believe in the process of evolution. What has been shown to be true in practice and in the fossil record is that adaptive mutations have occurred within a given species that make that species more reslient in survival. For example the mutations in color, etc. that make better camouflogue, etc.

What eveolution has NOT shown effectively is mutations that have crossed a given species into another species, which is a necessary step for Darwin's theory to work as a model that explains our origins. Thus one can believe that the origin of the universe or the origin of species is a product of some form of intelligent creator and still agree that evolution operates within a given species.

In order to have effective mutations that cross species, there would be an extraordinary of transitionary forms in the fossil record, not what we presently have. It's funny when archeologists find some skeleton (1 out of billions) and trumpet that this "could" be some type of link, and then go on to force it into some model. In order for evolution to have successfully occurred across species, there would be millions upon millions of transitionary forms that "almost" made it, millions that made it, and millions more that further varied across another species. There would be transitionary forms all over the place. The fossil record is laughably incomplete.

On a rational level, the mathematics of genetic mutation and the number of mutations that have to occur make the evolutionary scientist a man of great faith. One could win the powerball lottery one thousand times in a row with a much greater probability than evolution having occurred from the primordial soup to where we are today. And to say that just give it enough time doesn't fix that... cosmologists say the universe can only be 10 billion years old at most. There simply isn't enough time for it to have occurred.

So, I'll agree that Darwin's theory is at least a good model to attempt to explain the origins of species. But after 150 years of research of the fossil record, the large data sets that have been collected do not support the model too well.

Look at the elegance of Maxwell's equations, Newton's laws of graviity, and the amazing building blocks of sub-atomic physics, and it doesn't take a Jesus freak to conclude that such elegance and beauty belies an intelligent designer. But that's just my two cents.

Tommy can I ask you a simple yet probably a pretty complex question that is more then likely unanswerable through religion? If 2 different extraterrestrial life forms came from 2 separate planets in the universe and came to earth at the same time both being friendly would Jesus have died for there sins? This is the biggest part of Christianity that makes really no sense to me. If you use Einstiens Theory and that of todays physics the speed of light is 188,000 miles per hour. The nearest liveable star is 30 million light years away so traveling at the speed of light for 30 million years not possible I know. However if you throw what we now know altogether, now to travel at the speed of light for 2 weeks in a vessel (1 week into space and 1 week back) 30 years will have passed on earth. So using the same simple mathematics with no actual proof of E.T.'s it is just as feasible to say we were created by aliens and the reasoning behind it is in 1 year our time here on earth, traveling at the speed of light, 780 years will have passed on earth. So aliens can technically be 10 years old and 7800 years will have passed on earth. So there are 3 things we can look at here. there is a mysterious being called God who created an emmaculate conception and she gave birth to a boy that disappeared for 17 years and came back to society 1995 years ago and was crucified to "SAVE" mankind, or we are an experiment for aliens, Which they created a less intelligent life form to study or we just evolved. All are possibilities but which really sounds like a made up story the most. The story of God and Jesus sounds like a totally unbelievable story to me I guess because I try to see things for what they are and not what I am told they are. I really would like to hear your opinion on the question if Aliens came here would Jesus still be the bibles sin for Idolatry or would a lot of minds change do you think? Respectfully,Wake

Yeah.

Can't say that I agree with tommyguns's view, however it seems a great and novel perspective to have. :)

The only thing that holds me back from being religious, aside from not believing in deities, is sometimes making choices rationally that are quite likely immoral by some book of law. It has the potential of creating inner conflict, regrets, and a sense of hypocrisy. There's something to be said about compromising one's faith, but at the other end, we all see the dangers of blind faith without understanding.

Ok people.. this thread needs to not go any farther lol.. i mean theres only one simple answer to this no offence, stupid question, evolution is a scientifically proven fact.. it doesn't matter if you "believe" it or not, your opinions, etc do not matter what so ever.. thats'all

Everything that is also is not, for every action there is a reaction, Simple things we over look for every positive there is a negative with all things in life including life itself. This is where evolution takes place. All organisms on Earth are interconnected in someway. I am pretty optimistic and believe that for every naturally or unnaturally occurring disease, depending how you look at it, there is a natural cure. Natural meaning from within the earth and its in our own means to find it and use it.

Rampage you are right and wrong! do not use the word fact when talking about evolution because there is the vernacular and there is the scientific theory. Where there is any theory on evolution there will always be a creationist with a counter theory that is society's beliefs and minds is credible. Respectfully,Wake
