Death at work

So yesterday at my work we had a contractor out to clean some bird shit off the tops of our giant doors. These doors are 80ft tall at the highest point. Because of the nature of our work we also had 2 employees, escorting the contractors around the site. Before work began, we went over all the proper ppe and safety needed to do this job, and they assured us they had experience working at these heights. One of the workers fell to his death yesterday, from the top of the 80ft doors while he was working. I was 3 man on site, helped with Cpr, till Ems could take over. EMS pronounced him 25 min after he fell.

Problem was he had his harness on correctly, he had the lanyard clipped to the back of his harness, but he did not have the other end clipped off to the railings. it was clipped on to the front of his harness. May as well not have had it on, in the first place. Contractors company and procedures will be scrutinized, by state and federal authorities, for wrongful death charges.

I guess I'm putting this out there for all the guys here who work, and have to follow the ppe rules. They are there for a reason, use the equipment provided, and go home safe every night. Your life is not worth the mucho ego, that tells you not to use the safety equipment. Something like this not only affect you, but all your coworker as well who have to help, and clean up the mess you leave behind.

Sorry you had to see that. RIP to that man and prayers for his family. I'm an ironworker. I have seen some shit that I'd rather not have seen over the years.

Driving with my father to a man's house to tell his wife and two young kids that their father/husband wasn't coming home from work is something that I would never wish on anyone.

Wow, that's crazy and unecassary. I feel for the family and friends. Last year some painters were spraying a shop that my friends son works out with a scissor lift (not for outside use) and it fell over with two guys in it. One dude rode it out and lived, the other jumped onto the cab of truck right before the lift basker crushed him. It was all over the news that day.

Be safe,
Hawk
