The Playbook is marketed as a similar device to the IPad. In my humble opinion, the IPad is superior.
Larger screen, more apps, and it works independently of the IPhone.
The Playbook is smaller but does run Adobe Flash. Ok...that is cool, but not a compelling reason to purchase.
I have a new Blackberry and can not really make the Playbook work within my work routine. It is a good device and fun for the kids....but that is about it. (Oh, the white noise app is awesome on the Playbook.)

Thanks.
