Good fuck the va they have the dumbest fucken retarded doctors in the entire fucken world, except for those who serve because most of those “doctors” barely passed the fuckn exam…and they are even fucken dumber…
i live way out not a va place for an extended 50 miles so community care network needs to return to the original one prior to what is now called community care… because that was awesome
i had my own civvie doc and they would send everything to the va for file and record keeping and that was it i never had to go to a va medical facility…

No change in budget for the VA, and an increase in budget for veterans to use outside medical providers…and a democrat from California wants me to believe that’s bad for me?
As a service-connected veteran, I’ve had great care through the VA, AND from the community care when I’ve been offered that option. I research so I know when I’m talking to a competent professional, I’m proactive about my issues and the help I desire, and I get taken care of without any cost to me at all, ever, since I was med-boarded.
I like how the most anti-military state in the union wants to tell the military how the most patriotic president in years is mucking up the VA and abandoning veterans.
Just like with all the other scare tactics the left pushes, I haven’t seen any issues yet and don’t expect to see any issues.

The top line went up because it always does. VA grows with inflation, aging cohorts, and (since 2022, back when the liberals were in charge) the PACT Act’s Toxic Exposures Fund which increased veteran funding. Trumpies point to a bigger number but is mostly riding Congressionally mandated, bipartisan autopilot and then taking credit. Typical Trumpian tactic.
Privatize by attrition. Shifting billions from Medical Services (in-house care) toward Community Care (outside providers) looks like a stealth privatization strategy: starve VA hospitals of staff/capex, then say, “See? They can’t keep up, send more to private networks,” which are pricier and less veteran specialized.
Maybe some of these changes are necessary to some degree judging on how veterans are responding to these changes. My dad used to complain a lot about the in house VA services. Then again, old people complain about everything all the time anyways. My dad would complain about the VA but loved his doctor there.
The cynical take is that Trump is simply achieving a Reagan dream, to divert public money to private industry.

When I had a good provider with the VA he would hold up his lanyard that states, One VA, and say what a bunch of bullshit. Which is 100% true. When I was in one region, they looked at my chart, saw I had chronic back pain and offered a civilian chiropractor with acupuncture. I didn't even ask, they just offered it up. Where I am at now, the provider says he can only authorize a chiropractor for acute pain that the regional director sets what is authorized and what isn't.
I have fired so many VA doctors it isn't even funny anymore. When they can't even read labs, spout BS that was disproven decades ago, I give them the boot and get a new one. I am hoping I run out and they just authorize me civilian care. TriCare isn't much better.

There are definitely incompetent doctors all over America, not just VA. Finding one you trust is key, and continuing to push until you get what you need is necessary.
My experience with community care has been essentially I just choose whoever I want, and the VA sends approval to them to see me. It’s never been difficult and I’ve always been able to choose exactly who I wanted from the area.
Tricare is somewhat more restrictive, but still allows for the same flexibility if they can’t get you in timely or don’t have the right specialist.
Shit, my best doctor through the VA so far wasn’t even a doctor, he was just a physicians assistant who “temporarily” took over the spot for 3 years, lol. The dude would listen open-minded, and then research things right in front of me if he didn’t know 100%, and was very receptive to me semi-leading my own treatments.
I’ve heard of issues similar to yours, concerning getting approval to seek outside care, but at the 3 different regions I’ve been a part of, I’ve always been able to find what I needed, eventually. Sometimes it takes some additional prodding, but I do get it.

My grandfather was a Colonol in the US Army and I remember his bitching about the VA he had to go to in San Antonio. He eventually said he would rather die than have to deal with these doctors again. He warned me over and over to not ever go to the VA So the 1st job I had that paid for my health insurance, I took the offer and have never been to the VA and always had my own personal health insurance Now my State employee pension still pays for my health insurance and my wife's through Medicare Advantage. I have people I know here that did not choose this option and have to deal with the VA in Houston and have nothing but horror stories to tell. I have absolutely no complaints about the service I get.
