what is a kcal???

Is there a difference between a kcal and a calorie? may be a dumb question, but I see kcal all the time. Thanks

not really

I think what you read in the US is displayed in it's simplest form so when it says 1 cal it really means 1,000 kcals

A calorie(cal) is the amount of heat energy required to raise 1cc or 1 gram of water 1 degree C. A food calorie(Cal), also referred to as a kilocalorie(kcal), is the amount of heat energy required to raise 1 kilogram(1000 grams) of water by 1 degree C. Both a Cal and kcal are equal to 1000cal. All listings on nutritional panels are in food calories(Cal) as are all caloric references in diet plans. Hope this helps.
