So after over a month now of gradually increasing pain and several appointments with the doc, I have finally gotten an MRI on my right elbow. The results have not come back from the MRI yet but the doc seems pretty sure he is going to reccommend i have surgery to fix this. I know every elbow surgery will go different as will the recovery based on the amount of damage and the quality of the surgeon. Mainly m just trying to see what kind of down time i should expect based on others experiences.

My elbow: only hurts when my arm reaches full extension, pain is specific to the tip of the bend just on the outer side of the bone. any pulling/curling motion is pain free but pressing/pushing away doesnt need much force at all to bring a sharp pain.

interested in finding out what the MRI results say. i have a very similar pain in my right elbow. it is starting to just randomly give me stabbing pains. although mine has to do with gripping something with my fingers when my arm is in extension, or atleast that is when it is at its worst. it is an odd pain that i am having a hard time figuring out exactly what the problem is.

Ogre take a look into the symptoms of tennis elbow lateral epicondylitis.
Alot of times people have the imbalance problem in their forearms and they dont even realize it, its a much simpler remedy to the issue without being cut on and health insurance costs and bills from a surgery with much less down time.
Usually, but not always people have this issue and they dont realize that the gripping of the bar when they hit full extension is what is torquing the joint.
Simple forearm exercises will help take care of the issue, at least look into that before they start cutting on you.tennis elbow symptoms - Bing Gezondheid

I think you should look into what Aj's talking about. I bet the MRI comes back normal which is typical with tennis elbow.

Read this and try some of it out. Its how I rehabbed my tennis elbow.

Good luck to you Ogre... If you do have the surgery, stick with your rehab. Do it as much as you can and follow every instruction to a T so you come back as close to 100% as you can.

Ogre I forgot too mention in my post as well, the general first aid you can apply DMSO, MSM, and big time ICE on that.
Good luck man I have had elbow problems a few times and they get in the way of training big time.

this is a great post that POB wrote up that has the rehab exercises in it! pretty simple and easy to do and a heck of a lot less painful than surgery.

im going to start doing them today and see what kind of difference it makes over the next few weeks. i injected some depo over mine a few weeks ago and it helped some but not for long. in this area i would make surgery the absolute last option (that coming from someone who loves to cut but i wouldnt cut on an elbow unless absolutely necessary!)

edit: i have previously been diagnosed with tennis elbow by an orthopedic specialist and the pain that i have currently is no where near the same as i had then. hence the reason that i have not thought that it was tennis elbow. even now, it doesnt fit the exact pain references that are described for tennis elbow even though it does some of them. i certainly think that it might be part of it, and could be all of it but as stated previously, it is way different than the "tennis elbow" that i was previously diagnosed with. as a someone who deals with this stuff every day i know that not every thing is a simple and as black and white as people are told and often times a term gets over used because it is easier than finding the right answer. i put tennis elbow in the same category as navicular disease, a catch all for any pain around the elbow.

have you had therapy or injections? a good orthopod will make you do 6 months of conservative treatment first. tendon debriements have awful success rates, therfore most dont like to do them

I have had several injections of cortosone and a lot of ice in the past. 7 months off did the trick for me. Get some rest and take some time off your workouts will be much better in the long run.

Hey bro. I deal with extreme elbow pain in my right elbow, I took zyflamend which helps alot and I go to p.t. 3 times a week. It sucks but for almost 4 weeks I can shake my Protien with out pain. Physical therapy really really helped along with zyflamend(vitamin shop) I bet u been doing alot for the pain, but if u can go without surgery and make those tendons stronger I think u would be better off imo. Surgery scares me.
