GREENEVILLE –– A Telford man faces up to ten years in prison and a $500,000 fine after he pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court to distributing anabolic steroids, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office.
According to the release, Freddie Matthew Sergent, 30, pleaded guilty to unlawfully distributing the steroids from around 2009 to April 2012.
Sergent received raw steroid powders and materials through the mail and other carriers from China and then processed and packaged the steroids into vials.
According to the release, the repackaged vials contained around 300 milliliters of a solution containing an anabolic steroid to include the schedule III anabolic steroid boldenone undecylenate, also known by the trade name of “Equipoise.”
Sergent reportedly sold the steroids to people in East Tennessee and others across the United States.
In March, a package mailed from Sergent to Michigan was intercepted and opened with a federal search warrant, and agents located a glass bottle with the label “Equipoise 300 mg/ml” on it.
Testing of the bottle was performed by the Drug Enforcement Administration laboratory and said the bottled contained the anabolic steroid boldenone undecylenate.
According to the release, in April, a federal search warrant was issued for Sergent’s residence and agents recovered steroid powders and materials used to make and package steroids, which included syringes, computers used to order and sell steroids over the Internet and three firearms.
Sergent admitted that he ordered the steroid powders from China, processed and packaged them and then sold the steroids to customers through the U.S. by mail, according to the release.
He told agents that he sold the steroids at $40 per vial and that he had sold around $80,000 worth of steroids.
Sergent is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 12.
The agencies that contributed to the investigation included DEA, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
