A large haul of steroids bound for Perth has been intercepted by customs officials, with two men fined $20,000 each after the drug seizure.

The steroids were discovered in two unrelated incidents.

On April 20, 2011, Thomas Bosnjak was selected for baggage examination at Perth International Airport after arriving on a flight from Singapore.

In the 30-year-old's luggage customs officers found 204 vials of steroids.

When asked if he had permission to import the items Bosnjak presented a medical certificate. After further investigation it was discovered the medical certificate was fake.

He was charged and convicted of one count of importing prohibited materials and two counts of making a false or misleading statement to an officer.

In a separate incident a 40-year-old Perth man was fined for importing steroids through via international postage between October 2011 and January 2012.

In October 2011 a parcel containing nine vials of steroids was intercepted by customs officials at the Melbourne International Facility addressed to Justin Rasmussen.

Over the next four months, a further eight parcels were intercepted by officers in Melbourne and Perth.

A search and seizure warrant were issued for Rasmussen's home and business addresses where officers found a number of vials and tablets all containing steroids.

He was convicted nine counts of importing prohibited substances and one count of unlawfully possessing prohibited substances.
