It's hard to get spotters to come out and help at meets. Luckily most meet directors are cool with the bigger guys bringing in their own spotters as long as they also help the other big guys. It adds liability - if a spotter touches the weight you can get reds for it - but it adds safety so most meet directors have been cool with it. It's good on the bench too, anything over 700 and I'm asking my 3-man handoff guys to stay where they are and spot.
Kids who have never seen a 700 or 800 pound bench will sometimes grab the weight early because they are scared of it - even if you are still working. Or you get some pud not paying attention and smash your face.
