the plan is to gain some muscle and stay as lean as possible before contest diet starts....My problem with weight gain is all fat goes to love handles ugh.

I'm the exact same way. I messed up my bulking macros and ended up getting fat in no time! I've started cutting about a month earlier than I had planned.
