FAIRFIELD -- Police have arrested two men suspected of organizing a distribution ring for illegal steroids and human growth hormone, and seized a large quantity of drugs, cash and firearms at homes in Trumbull, Bridgeport and Derby.

Fairfield police detectives began investigating Jerry Mazzuoccolo, 30, and Chris Puzzio, 32, in April after learning that illegal steroids were being sold in Fairfield and neighboring communities. The pair was arrested Wednesday after search-and-seizure warrants were executed at their homes. A third man was arrested by Westchester County police.

"By no means is this investigation closed," said Detective Tony Granata. "It is continuing and we expect multiple arrests will be forthcoming.

Granata said that officials fear some of the illegal drugs may have been purchased by high school students, but at this time, he said, there is no definitive evidence of that.

Fairfield police worked with Trumbull and Derby police, as well as agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency in New Haven and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Westchester County arrested a third suspect in the case, identified as Sean Jackson of Bridgeport, as he was headed back into Connecticut.

Police allege that Jackson would go into New York to get the raw materials needed to make the illegal steroids and growth hormone and bring them to Connecticut.

"These are hard investigations," Police Chief Gary MacNamara said. "It's hard to get the information, especially when you're talking about HGH and steroids."

The Edge gym in Trumbull lists Mazzuoccolo as a personal trainer, but police said there is no evidence to suggest that his employer was aware of his alleged activities.

Puzzio at one time apparently was a competitive bodybuilder.

Mazzuoccolo, of Hawthorne Lane in Derby, and Puzzio, of Algonquin Trail in Trumbull, were both charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance. and operating a drug factory.

Bond for each man was set at $10,000 and they are expected to appear in Superior Court on Aug. 19 -- Mazzuccolo at the Derby courthouse and Puzzio in Bridgeport.

Jackson was charged in New York with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and held on a $50,000 bond, police said.

Don't know enough about the business to speak for the businessmen, but from what I've seen, Internet beats f2f every which way but loose.

Yes, of course, that IS the point, and they will judge their success by how many newspapers or magazines they sell, by how their tv ratings are. That, and the tactic of personifying the evil drug dealer in the headline, like "Local Grandmother Arrested For Selling Steroids," and you can substitute any other label for Grandmother. Rec drugs are no longer seen as anything newsworthy, our misfortune is that we are currently more sexy, ratings-wise.

To spread fear about people who like to live healthy lifestyles and don't rob, steal and kill for their 'habit'. It's funny the time and money spent on aas when crak, meth are like a wildfire plague on our youth. I guess cops feel safer raiding and confiscating working folks rather than gangsters
