Rheta West with a 555lb attempt (pretty sure this is an accurate depiction of what counts as below parallel in SPF :D )

Not everyone stops at parallel. Some go all the way. Max Anita is an Oly lifter who now also PLs and check out his squat.

GG the depth of your squat depends on where you catch your stretch reflex. Its where your ligaments and muscles are stretched and are primed to fire back. BI squats outside shoulder width and probably goes deeper than most, same as Max in the vid he just posted because of an Oly background. I squat VERY wide, even raw and catch a good reflex about 2 inches below parallel.

If you're in equipment like briefs and a squat suit, you get an artificial stretch reflex at the bottom.

If you want to really build up a powerful squat, pause at the bottom. That eliminates the reflex and its all muscle. Check out the squat vids Flex posts for a great example. 500lbs paused is no joke.

You can do paused squats where you pause at the bottom for a set time period (like 3 sec, 5 sec, even as high as 10 sec) and you can also do Anderson squats (aka bottom up squats) where you start at the bottom and not standing when you perform the lift. These 2 lifts take the stretch reflex out of the equation and really make you work on powering the weight up.
