I was mad at my progress so I ate 6 k a day and put on 10 lbs in 2 months. I’m posting this to ask if I should cut to 230?

First of all, welcome to TID. Please go to the Introductions forum and introduce yourself and say hi. Welcome aboard.

The short answer is yes. Getting yourself down to 230 will be better for you from a health point of view as well as aesthetically. Sadly, it's easier to put 10 pounds on than to take 10 pounds off. Cut back your calories, and up your cardio. Don't cut your calories too drastically too quickly, or else you can't trim further as your body starts to plateau.

If your normal calorie intake used to be 3000 cals/day (as an example), cut you calories to 2500-2600/day), and than after 3-4 weeks if you see your weight loss slowing, you can cut your calories down to 2300-2400/day, and so on.

The first week if you have been eating carbs, you will lose up to 4 lbs which will include some water weight (carbs cause you to retain water). Try not to lose more than 2 lbs per week after the first week.

My coach swears by getting yourself lean at the beginning, then increasing your calories so you gain only a pound or so per month. He says most normal sized people, even on AAS, can't gain more than 7 lbs per year. So if you are gaining 1 lb per month, youll put on 7 lbs muscle and 5 lbs fat. You will eventually want to take that fat off once again, so you stay lean. After that, you should repeat the slow gains.

For the more serious clients, he advocates for creating a new, permanent diet, where you are neither bulking or cutting, just trying to put on muscle slowly, while not putting on much fat. When it comes time to lose the fat, you can do a slow cut over several weeks or you can do a fast cut over a couple of weeks, depending on your goals and needs.
