Which one do you like better? We all are different. I get strong very well on 5/3/1 but am curious if others think there are better results from 5x5. I'm contemplating The Cube method .

In on this thread. I have experience with 5x5 but have yet to try 5/3/1

I'm running 5/3/1 right now. I think both methods are good. I'm thinking when my progression stalls with 5/3/1, I might switch to the 5x5 method. Not sure what else to possibly run. Maybe switch to 3/5/1.

I ran a hybrid of the 5x5 method for my first powerlifting competition.

It looked like this. I found it on bodybuilding.com....

Squats 5x5
Front squats 3x8-10
Glute raises 3x8-10
Calves 3-4 to failure

Bench press 5x5
Flat dumbbell benchpress 2x8-10
Close grip bench press 3x5
Dips 2x10

Deadlifts 5x5
Barbell rows 3x6-8
Hyperextensions 3x10-15
Barbell curls 5x5

I got stronger on this program. The high reps target your cardio too. After each set I was out of breath.

This was in 2011. I had no idea what the iron den was then.

I wish I had though! I'd be a lot farther a long.

If I was forced to choose between the 2 I'd choose 5/3/1 over 5x5. A program that's completely linear progression imho works best for beginners.

I think the Cube Method is the best out of the 3 since it addresses speed work and neither of the other 2 do.

I like 5,3,1. 5x5 was good as well. But, admittedly. With Wendler's program. I'm in and out done and feel good about it. And the fact that I still feel strong at 54 yrs old is better! I may hit 5x5 when I get bored have to change it up once in a while.

54 with the libido of a 15 yr old sophmore!! Stay away from the pencil sharpener if she winks at you. :)

I've run hybrids of both along with pyramids and reverse pyramids....thinking about the cube as I've been following Brandon's page on FB moreso lately as BI noted about speed being factored in.

Going into the summer, I'll most likely run back to the 5x5 and then into the cube....I PL and BB but more focus will be empasized on bigger weights next fall/winter rather than what I look like.

BI .... I'm glad you brought up speed work. There is a modification now to 5/3/1 for speed work. I completely forgot to post that.

It takes a page from the west side method.

Like this:

Monday: squats 5/3/1, dynamic dead lifts

Tuesday: over head press 5/3/1, dynamic bench press

Thursday: dead lift 5/3/1, dynamic squat

Friday: bench 5/3/1

I'd like to try this in the future.

That'd be an interesting program. I'd like to see someone here run it and keep a log of it so we call follow it.

I hope I get to run it in the future. It'll be in my log if I do.
