What are you guys paying for beef? Sirloin yesterday at my local Food Lion was 15.99 a lb. i can get it for less at a family owned meat market but this is getting ridiculous.

The last time I paid for beef at the supermarket was when I visited my brother over the summer. I paid $25 for 3 lbs of 93/7! Ridiculous. Pretty much all my red meat comes from venison anymore. I buy half side of beef every other year from a friend that comes out to just under $4 a pound. As long as I kill a couple deer a year, the beef will cover me for 2 years.

Normally I try to go in halves on a cow. When I buy at the store I can get 14-16oz ribeyes and new york strips for $6-7 each and 93/7 ground beef got $34 for 10 pounds. A couple days ago I got a pack of 4 New York strips (about 14 oz and 1.5" thick) for $28

I don’t buy beef. If I’m eating red meat, it’s at a steak house. But all food prices are ridiculous. The Sam’s club and Costco Roasted chicken is still a great deal.

We buy a whole each year, and since moving, we pay 4.75/lb up from 4.25. A whole lasts about a year.

You guys have me beat. I can get sirloin for 8.99 a lbs just buying it 10 lbs or 2 lb at a time. 1/2 a side would be less than 1/2 that. I just think it horrific that regular joes are getting raped. Like Clause says ZAE WILL EAT ZEE BUGS.

I’m usually a steak snob, but these prices have made me reconsider. Plus, I’m trying to cut some fat in my diet.

Walmart had small ~.35lbs flat iron steaks that were priced like $3.85-$4.50. I bought a stack of them to try.

Not gonna lie, they’re not bad at all. Definitely buying more. Flavor is fine (after I season it) and cut just fine with a butter knife. Not chewy not too tough.

I just split a cow with a friend. Everything all seal packed into individual 1lb steaks and packs of ground beef, etc. It's then frozen immediately after butchering and packing. I did this for the first time last year. I'm getting my half cow this weekend. 311.5 lbs of beef - ribeyes, filet, sirloins, stew meat, shaved steak, ground beef.

$4.75 per/lb

I did the math and I save over $2k doing this. And the meat is the best steak I've ever had. It's like the difference between store bought eggs and eggs from your friends chicken coupe.

Costco has some incredible sirloins packed in bulk packs. They have choice and prime. The prime is only $1 more a lb. I think it is $8, but they are the most tender sirloins I have ever had. They are about 2.5" think and each steak is about 12-16oz. I use them for a bunch of our red meat needs. But we even enjoy them just as steaks. I sear each of them for 1.5min on each side w/ butter in a cast iron pan, and then put them on a tray w/ meat thermometer into a 275 oven and cook until 115. I get no arguments from the kids or wife, and normally they only want fillet ;)

But I have not seen a place with as good quality of meat at consistently good pricing as costo. We have a higher end chain store here as well, that will often run 'loss leader' meat sales and I stock up when they do good sales as well.
