Long story short - Male, 40s, married, three kids. Veteran with some nagging injuries. Work a blue collar job. Lifted for many years but stopped for about a decade due to doing other fitness things, now I'm back and Olympic lifting with the hopes to do a master's competition someday for fun. Started back again March 2024.

Current approach - Three times a week in the gym (can't do more and limited to 45-60 minutes tops). Alternating snatch and C&J so I hit each three times over two weeks. Squat twice a week. Rotate in some push and pulls. Finish with some incline treadmill walking. In the evening I do pull-ups. On my off days, I do cardio (usually steady state work but sometimes intervals or HIIT). Nothing too crazy. Weights are in pounds, not kilos.

4/1/24 - Clean and jerk, worked up to 140# for a few singles. Pendlay rows, 3x5 @ 140#. Back squat, 3x5 @ 185# (~70%).

4/3/24 - Snatch, worked up to 95# for a double. Was supposed to bench and squat but had to go to work an hour early so that was all the lifting for today.

Welcome aboard and thanks for your service. Are the injuries due to that and what are your current stats?

It's likely some are, some are just from hard living. I am actually working on a claim with the VA currently. Others could be from previous years of strength sports and martial arts. High mileage when you add it all up.

Right now I'm 5'9" and 195 pounds, could probably lose about 10 pounds but I married a Polack who is a great cook so that's tough.

I've been back for about a month but my estimated 1RM right now for a few lifts are 245 squat, 185 bench, 175 power clean, 100 snatch and 155 clean and jerk. All in pounds.

I have been a home workout guy for the past several years - kettlebells, sandbags, weight vest, etc. Seeing some carryover at least.

A lot of beat up older guys here to commiserate with, also a few very active vets.

4/5/24 - Clean and jerks, 145# for 3 singles. Back squat, 3x5 @ 185# (~70%). LifeFitness Pulldowns (other pulldowns were all occupied), 3x5 @ 150#.

Spent the weekend camping with my sons, did some hikes and geocaching so we kept busy.

4/8/24 - Snatch, 95# for several singles. Getting that full overhead squat position today was tough so I just squeezed in some extra reps lighter than I intended until I felt better about it. I then finished with back squats, 3x5 @ 205# (~80#).

4/9/24- 5km run for time. Nothing exciting. Harder than I thought it was going to be.

4/10/24 - Clean and jerk, worked up to 155# for a single. Previous sets felt good and the jerk felt much more explosive. 155 got pressed out ever so slightly. Finished with some Pendlay rows, 3x5 @ 155#. Early work start so not much time for anything else, incline treadmill walking during my lunch break later on.
