SAN ANTONIO - The 2012 Shamrock American Hero Power Classic will be held on Sunday, March 18th at the Freeman Coliseum Exposition Hall B (3201 E. Houston Street) at 10AM. Founded by two-time World’s Strongest Woman champion, Jill Mills, this inspirational powerlifting and military strongman event is a special part of the 9th Annual South Texas Motorcycle Show. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project (Home - Wounded Warrior Project).

All ten competitors in the Military Strongman event and nine competitors in the RAW United Powerlifting event are wounded service members participating in free rehabilitative programs offered by the non-profit WWP. Additional wounded service members will be attending both events. The organization’s mission is to honor and to empower wounded warriors who incurred service-related severe wounds, injuries, or illnesses on or after September 11, 2001 by helping them gain confidence and independence, while adapting to life after injury. Many of these warriors say the tragic events of September 11th are why they felt a sense of duty to serve their country.

The RAW United Powerlifting event beginning at 10AM will feature competitions in the following events: squat, bench press, and deadlift.

The Military Strongman event beginning at 2PM will feature competitions in the following events: a 450 lb tire flip for 60 feet; an axle deadlift: the competitor will lift a 2.3” bar with two Toyota Tundra Truck tires weighing 250 lbs attached to it as many times as possible in 60 seconds; a farmers walk: the competitor will carry 170 lb weights in each hand for 60 feet; and a duffel bag shuffle: the competitor will pick up a 175 lb duffel bag filled with sand, carry it in front of the body, load it over a 50” bar, and repeat the process with a second 175 lb bag in the same manner for the best time.

In the upcoming week the wounded veterans participating in the 2012 Shamrock American Hero Power Classic, whose illnesses and injuries range from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to missing limbs, will continue their intense training in San Antonio in preparation for these astonishing events.

It was a good meet, too bad only 4 of them showed up. I competed in the Open Heavyweight on Saturday.
