Why do you want her to wear one? Unless she is working out heavy - belts are counterproductive. Current research has shown over and over that belts and wraps actually cause muscles to weaken and atrophy and create a susceptibility to injury in that area. SO unless you are working an injury or training for powerlifting belts are not needed. I had major spine reconstruction at age 35 and 13 years later I do heavy squats and deads with no pain and no belts

Because i took a youtube of her doing squats for her trainer and he told her she must get one.

All trainers are not equal- some basically suck? If he saw a video and said use a belt Id right there say- She needs to work on form- not rely on a belt.

Research has shown that weight belts may not protect the spine to the degree once thought. They may stabilize the upper body by increasing pressure in the abdominal cavity.

If people wear belts much of the time the lower back muscles get bound which prevents the development of strength which is what weight lifters are after so belts become counter productive. When one starts to rely on a belt then your abdominals are not working

However- If she has a back injury or if she is training for an olympic meet or powerlifting meet or just lifts heavy then yes. However it sounds like she needs a good trainer that will help her improver her form NOT ADVISE TO USE BELT.

Try to find a trainer that has a more credible certification or has been training for long time- The guys at my gym, including myself we all have masters degrees and CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist ) which requires minimum of BA. Now believe me Im not one to always preach about that- because I trained for 20 years before I got certified and basically just so I could bust on all the ignorance surrounding the credibility of so many cerifications. Some people barely have ever trained in their lives went to a few weeks of classes and took a short test and abracadabra they become legal- thats a load of crap- Dont get me wrong in every arena and level you find ignorance but- sheesh- You dont fix bad form by using a belt. Thats like how so many newbies join to get big - hey Im 155 pounds want to begin lifting, what should I cycle with?? LOL She sounds like form is the problem.

Bro- YES- theres many people that the public find great. Its like pop culture. In the Martial Art Circles where I live Im well known, my teachers are well known - Ive challenged many teachers that are world famous and people thought I was crazy at first until I put them in their place.

In your case its common sense, I mean think about it _ he sees her perform a movement and instead of teaching proper form or did he? He says use a belt?? Thats ABSURD- I hope you dont pay that man

Then again He is a PRO and he I think does have a CSCS- Sometimes the successfull ones wont take the time to provide personal treatment- Just look at what I say- ITS ABSURD. Rember too- Just because he is famous for winning contests DONT make him a great trainer- Honestly if you cant see where Im coming from then all I can say is good luck and more power to ya!

Let me ask you one more thing- This is anther HUGE HUGE issue- Why did you have to take a you tube for her trainer?? Is he not standing there while she squats?? He should be standing there and advising her on form in PERSON should be part of the personl training....I dont understand?

Holy crap, i am not here to argue with you on if she needs a belt or if you find it absurd the manner in which this decision was made. i also dont care what you think of her trainer or your opinion of having a trainer not physically there. That is not what i started this thread for.

Can we get back on topic to what i actually asked? Who makes a good belt for a female?

Thanks

Goldy I don't lift heavy and I went down to the local sporting goods store and bought me a leather one that they had hanging there. How much is she lifting? I can't see the point in spending a bunch of money on a belt if she isn't really going heavy. I only use mine for squatting over 175# or deads over 275#. The rest I work on form and use my core muscles. I do find that it helps give me something to push against vs supporting or stabilizing my back.
