I'm not a beer and/or wine guy. I drink booze. Good Booze, Cheap Booze, Weird Booze...Shit even Homemade Booze. Thread is simple. Let's make a cocktail bible. I enjoy sipping whiskey, rum and Scotch but I love making cocktails. I make them "spirit forward", meaning strong lol, but have developed a taste for something more than the dive bar standards. Don't be afraid to buy something weird instead of the big players. Some liqueurs out there are phenomenal in cocktails.
A good home bar should have a few dusty bottles like: Cointreau, Campari, Midori, Chambord, Heering, Liquor 43, Irish Mist and Drambuie (at the very least)
Gimme 4 Staples and make us a drink.
Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Tullamore D.E.W Irish Whiskey
Hendrick's Gin
Flor De Caña 12 or 18 Rum (12yr to mix 18yr to sip)
It was 80 degrees in NJ this week so I'm making a "summery" sipper tonight:
2oz Flor De Cana 12
1.5oz Coconut Water*
1.5oz Pineapple Juice
1oz Liquor 43**
1/4oz Lime Juice
*not the sweetened concentrates
** optional but adds, citrus and vanilla notes without extra juice (60proof)
Shake well over ice and serve on the rocks. I like it as poured in a double old fashioned glass. My wife also likes this in a Collins glass with a splash more coconut water for lounging at the pool (4oz instead of 1.5).
