Light HeavyweightAlex Pereira (c)vs.Jiří Procházka
FeatherweightBrian Ortegavs.Diego Lopes
Light HeavyweightAnthony Smithvs.Roman Dolidze
Women's BantamweightMayra Bueno Silvavs.Macy Chiasson
WelterweightIan Machado Garryvs.Michael Page

Great card!

Alex is the man, Jiri got KO'd in the last fight but was doing well. I still think Alex wins by TKO/KO.

Ortega vs Lopes this is my fav fight on the card. Ortega has been around a while and is a hard nosed, never say die wrestler with great chokes. He throws heavy shots and will fight until he cannot. If you have not seen Lopes you are in for a treat. In the UFC he has fought 4 times and won 3 all by stoppage after dropping his 1st by close decision. Who did he loose to? Undefeated and bad mofo MovsarEvloev. Lopes will strike with anyone. he also has some of the slickest subs from his back! This one will be good boys if you like high level technique.

Smith vs Dolidze - Smith is 2-3 in his last 5. He went from top of the food chain to high level gate keeper. But he is still a threat to anyone and he won his last one with one of his best moves, the choke. Dolidze is a power striker. He has finished 3 out of 4 in his last wins but dropped his last 2 fights by decisions. Great fight.

MBS vs Chiasson I know both gals prefer subs and Chiasson will jab you and MBS is a sub machine.

IMG vs Venom Page You fancy striking? Two high level strikers to fight here. 4 combined subs in a combined 38 pro fights. IMG has not fought a striker like venom. This will be slow with lots of fakes and feints until it is not. Look for venom to use that calf kick. It will be very important for him to slow down the hands of IMG (IMG is the guy who married a woman who wrote a book, How to be a WAG, she is also way older than him and her ex lives with them. Hey if he is happy.....? Should be a great fight.

Yea, the main fight should be a banger. It's hard to say, but Pereira has KO power, at least much more than Jiri does, and it only takes him to whack somebody one time for their lights to go out. I don't think either guy has a very strong ground game. Pereira looked like a total amateur a year or two back, then all of a sudden got a black belt. He would whoop my ass, but it seemed kind of funny to me. It should be a stand-up battle, but I could see one of them going for a takedown to mix it up, or if they get clipped. Should be a good fight unless one gets KO'd, lol.

Can't agree more strongly about the Ortega/Lopes fight!!! THIS is the fight to watch. I LOVE watching Diego fight, he looks like your typical EMO with his haircut, but that MF'r can scrap! He put Evloev in deep trouble many times in their fight, and he took that fight I think with less than a week out too. I like both guys. I may give an edge to Lopes on the feet, but I want to see how it goes on the ground. Ortega is a monster on the ground, but Lopes is really good too.

Dolidze/Smith...could be a good fight. Dolidze will come to bang and take his head off, so it will depend on Smith on how this goes. I can see Smith being more technical, and he may have a better gas tank than Dolidze...maybe. It's a 3 round fight though, so that may not be an issue, although both are big guys.

I can't say i really care much about this chick fight. MBS is an overdramatic Brazilian fighter who is loud and likes to scream and do 'mean' faces, lol. She got her ass handed to her in her last fight though by Pennington. I've only seen Chiasson fight twice, one was when she was doing pretty good until she got a massive kick to the body by Irene Aldana, which was counted as a KO. I thjink I seen some of her last fight where she won by sub and got a performance of the night and looked really good. Not sure how i feel about this fight, but we'll see.

MVP/IMG should be a really cool fight. MVP just made Kevin Holland look like an amateur in his last fight. Holland is a great fighter too. IMG is a larger guy and good everywhere it seems...standup, kicks, ground. Pretty excited for this fight!

Yea man, i'm getting pretty amp'd for this card.

The main, co-main and the MVP/IMG fights should be super badass.

Ortega was complaining, which I guess I can understand where he is coming from, that no matter who wins this fight between he and Lopes, they have a LONG wait before they have a title shot. First is Holloway vs Topuria that will play out in a few months. Then Volkonovski will have the next shot again, which will bring either he or Lopes a fight, if they even get a shot, until later in 2025. So like a whole year. That has to suck. I feel the same way about the Heavyweight division, it's all tied up and at a standstill due to the Stipe/Jones fight that keeps getting pushed back or somebody getting hurt. Kind of sucks. So much can happen though, so we'll se how it plays out.

***************************

Another fight that is interesting to me, and Dana White has it as a pick on his "If you don't know now you know" fights to watch, is the match between Payton Talbott and Yanis Ghemmouri. It's on the prelim card. Talbott has looked pretty good, and I can see them building him up. Dana already used him in a similar fashion as O'Malley.

Then there is the Joe Pyfer vs Marc-Andre Barriault fight. Joe lost his last fight against Jack Hermansson pretty, and MAB lost his last fight to Chris Curtis.

Actually, Cub Swanson vs Andre Fili should be good as well. Cub has slowed down the last several years, so I hope he still has it mentally to put on a good fight.

Pretty sad to see Arlovski's name on the early prelim card. Guy is a legend but so much past his prime. Makes you wonder why he keeps fighting. He must need the money is my guess. I guess this is his 60th fight.

Ortega missed weight by a bunch so they will fight at 155. Sucks as he only cut down to 151 lbs before he had to rehydrate. He will be HUGE!

Arlovski dropped 3 in a row. 1 decisions, 1 TKO and 1 sub. He is done. He needs the $$$. Remember he loved furs and rockin cars and two girls, one for each arm.

He was planning a trip up a weight class and was just too big for 145. It will give him an advantage for sure in grappling.
I didn't read into it, but now i think I seen something about him being heavier to go up a weight class on FB. I didn't read into it, but i'm certain this is who and what they were talking about now. Yea, i'm not sure how he was making 145#.

Well, Alex is the king at 205. He has the death tough. Jiri is a bad dude but no match for Alex.

Lopes beat up a game Ige. The 1st two rounds were ALL Lopes. He slowed and allowed Ige to take the 3rd. I think Ige's stock went up. He took that fight on mere hours notice!

Roman beat up the aged out Smith. I like Smith and he is still a top guy but will never find his old glory. Roman fought a great fight but did not convince me he was the next great thing.

Macy vs MBS. IMO a bullshit stoppage. MBS won the first and it was close in the 2nd.

IMG vs Venom. Grappling was the key for Garry's victory. But he did not look like the future he states he is.

I missed Cub vs Fili, I heard it was a banger!

  • Fight of the Night: Andre Fili vs. Cub Swanson
  • Performance of the Night: Alex Pereira, Macy Chiasson, Joe Pyfer, and Payton Talbott

Yea, Jiri is really good, but Alex made him look like a complete amateur last night. He really made Jiri look bad, and that is saying a lot. Jiri is a strange guy, lol. I don't know whether to laugh with him or at him, haha. Was he joking about the magic stuff, or was he serious? I wonder if he is acting and putting on a face with some of what he does and says, or if he is really serious? Not a knock, but a unique guy, lol. Alex's coach said that before they came out they looked at Jiri's method of defending the leg/calve kicks and notice that he drops his hands during it and totally leaves himself susceptible to head kicks. I mean wow, they read that like a textbook. Alex is getting so much better with each and every fight, I don't think a lot of people are going to beat him in the standup. I mean, they are trying to best a world champion kickboxer on the feet, which isn't going to happen. Adesanya was the best equipped for him, but he has the same background. Somebody will need good standup, but a good ground game and good takedowns to really hang with him....and be able to take punches. This guy has both unbelievable top technique coupled with power, he is unreal on the feet. I would love to see him and Jon Jones fight each other, it would be the biggest fight in the history of the UFC if they can make it happen, and if both don't lose in the process. I have my doubts on an old Stipe at this point, and if Aspinall can't do it, then I don't see anybody in the HW division who can come close to Jon. I think we are a ways-off from a Jones/Perreira fight. After Stipe, Jon will have to fight Aspinall....well, unless Curtis Blaydes beats him in their fight coming up, then I could see Perreira getting a fast track to Jones. Perreira will have to at least fight Ankalaev next, I imagine. That could be a good fight.

Lopes gassed in the 3rd and Ige capitalized on it. Ige is underrated imo. This was a tough fight for Diego no matter what. I imagine the huge weight gain for the fight may have played against him. Just speculation on my part. He will need to fix that in the future. He always did well in his prior fights, so I think this was a 1-time deal with all that went on leading into the fight. Major props to both guys for making this fight happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they do it over in September at that Sphere event. I can see Dana doing it for them both after stepping up big time for this card. We'll see.

The Dolidze/Smith fight was a bore fest. Not the worst, but both guys died out in a 3-round fight, especially Smith. I'm not that high on Dolidze at this point either. He is good, but at this point, I don't see him in a title fight.

Chiasson/Silva was a decent women's fight until it was called. That cut on Silva was DEEP. It's tough because she was not fazed by it at all, and part of me wanted the fight to continue. Silva was a lot more reserved with her emotions on this fight, lol.

IMG/MVP was a decent fight. IMG did what he needed to do to win. On the feet, MVP was tearing him up. He had MVP in a major choke in the first round, and for the life of me, I do not know how he didn't choke him out. That would have never happened with a great ground JJ specialist. He let that get away from him and left the door open for MVP. In fact, MVP came back and won the 2nd round big time. MVP needs more experience on the ground. He did some things, or didn;t do for that matter, some things he should have already been aware of at this level....such as rolling to the side of the ankle in the body triangle, and few things when in the clench up against the fence, and then when IMG took his back for the last 2-2.5 minutes of the 3rd round he didn't try to shake him off his back. I was disappointed he didn't try anything in that 3rd round. IMG was content just ending the fight like that to wear out the clock, and he should have done at least something to counter that. I agree with Jipped though, both guys need some work before they make their way up the ranks.

Pyfer totally annihilated MAB. Not much to talk about except it almost seemed like MAB got scared and dropped on purpose. He got hit clean with one punch, but to me, it didn't seem like the f/u punches even connected? Pyfer must have some unbelievable power...I can't even imagine if he would have landed flush.

Fili and Swanson was a good fight. I swear I had Swanson edging him out, and so did Joe Rogan and others. Both guys needed this win. I hate to see it go like that when in the judges hands. It was a close fight though, and I would probably have to rewatch it.

I agree with all you said. I do think Alex is used to being the bigger man. Against Jon Jones he would not be. jon has otherworldly TDs and I think would dominate Alex on the ground. On the feet. Hard to beat Alex. He is a monster.

Who can beat him? Magomed? I don't think so. Unless he can get a TD.

Even in HW who can beat JJ besides Tom? there is nobody close. I thought maybe Pavlovich but he lost to Volkov. Gane will get taken down with ease.
