I remember reaching out to one of my closest friends growing up who won a ton of college awards and had something like 450 carries in his last year in college and played in the NFL for a couple years. (Seeing him score a TD was a personal highlight of mine) and asking him what he thought of playing in those leagues and he said “they are fun if you don’t mind being worried about an ex-con trying to level you on the backside of every play.” He said he could never even mess around with that stuff because as soon as people found out who he was they’d act like it was the Super Bowl and try and hurt me.
I mean looking at him other than being muscular he was barely 6 feet a little over 200 pounds you’d never know he was a former NFL running back. There’s a scene in the movie “little children” with flag football that really rings this home. I remember playing in a flag football league not long after college with some buddies and the guy on the other side had through he put together a superstar flag football team. first game of the season the third or fourth play of the game I dropped back and took an INT back the whole length of the field and I was on a strict 12 ounce curl program at the time and the kid fully melted down to the point half his team left…
