London: Sean Cleathero, father-of-one, died after drinking toxic pesticide, which was advised to him as a weight loss supplement, according to the court.
The bodybuilder was allegedly suggested to dissolve Dinitrophenol (DNP) in water and drink the mixture at a High Wycombe gym. Sean Cleathero, 28, later died in the hospital after being poisoned by Dinitrophenol.
Peter Purkins, 47, Jamie Chivers, 44, and Jason King, 41, are on judicial trial at Old Bailey, accused of manslaughter, however all the three individuals deny the accusation.
According to the court, Chivers and Purkins were co-owners of two businesses in High Wycombe - Apollo Fitness, where Cleathero collected and drank the toxic pesticide on 16th October, 2012, and Precision Laboratories where the drug was produced.
King was Chivers and Purkins employee at Apollo Fitness and it was supposed that he knew dinitrophenol was given to Cleathero. He said that Cleathero, member of the gym since March 2012, had earlier been supplied with dinitrophenol pills.
But after complaining to Purkins that they were not working, Chivers left an envelope comprising DNP powder at Apollo Fitness for the customer to collect.
The prosecution said that the only warning Purkins gave to Cleathero about the DNP powder was that it will not taste good.
The court was shown the CCTV footage of the gym in which the victim was seen drinking the bright yellow liquid and then starts to sweat.
Cleathero was taken to Wycombe Hospital where he died 8 hours after consuming the lethal DNP powder.
The post mortem report showed the cause of death by poisoning. Cleathero's body temperature rose to 42C, which was more than the average body temperature of around 37C.
