Too much pump? Truth about Rhabdomyolysis a.k.a Rhabdo
Rhabdo

October 15, 2016 by Kevin Simmang

We all go in to the gym looking to give it our all, and the reality is you can give it too much.

Obtaining a pump and breaking ?tearing down? the muscular structures are critical for growth and strengthening. Yet there?s been an ever more apparent and yet slightly ignorant epidemic that?s come about as a result of the cult following to continuous high intensity training.

This epidemic is a medical condition known as Rhabdomyolysis a.k.a Rhabdo .

Rhabdomyolysis- is essentially the over working of muscles to the point where the muscles start to become damaged beyond repair and actually die off. These dead cells create a highly toxic compound chemical in the blood known as MYOLGOBIN which goes to your kidneys to be filtered and due to the in ability for your kidney?s to filter the broken down myoglobin it can result in death due to sudden kidney failure.

Know the warning signs:

Muscle pain, especially in the shoulders, thighs or lower back

Muscle weakness or trouble moving arms or legs
Abdominal pain
Nausea or vomiting
Fever, rapid heart rate
Confusion, dehydration , fever, or lack of consciousness
Dark red or brown urine; reduced or no urine output
These should not go over-looked and it?s critical to seek immediate medical treatment for Rhabdo if the conditions persist or become worst.

The typical treatment period for Rhabdo is 2-5 days in the hospital essentially flushing and cleaning your blood and kidney?s through dialysis and other medical means.

Frequently we see the crossfit cult wearing ?rhabdo? as a badge of honor saying they pushed themselves to the limits and all this other garbage chatter?.. Get real people.

In the end remember the phrase ?rest makes best?. Your body must repair it?s self so think about the consequences next time you plan on trying to workout on already sore muscles.
