This guy is awesome , love Sebastians channel and the way he explains things. This is him going over some of the issues Thor was having and how he worked past them.

Nothing against Thor, or Eddie, or any other strongman or deadlift only specialist…but the strongest man to ever live is alive right now, and he’s pulled almost 500kg in a full meet, has pulled 501kg after a full meet with straps, doesn’t use a suit, and has doubled 470kg just recently in the gym.

If he wants to, and I think he will sometime soon, he’ll go higher than 505kg, and he’ll do it completely raw.

Colton Englebrecht is his name. And if you don’t know him, definitely look him up.

Highest raw total ever and at 100lbs lighter than any dude anywhere near him on the all time list.

Colton doesn’t pull a true sumo. Much more hybrid stance with arms inside knees but feet in the same position as his squat, which is just logical if that’s your strongest base position.

The guy in the video tries to give some credit to Colton but also says it’s not the same…without mentioning that both Eddie and Thor use a multiply suit which adds plenty of help, and both use straps. It’s not even close if you took away the straps and suit.

Benedikt was the first real deadlift over 1000 lbs, in shorts and a tshirt, over under grip. But he was 190kg at the time.

Colton pulls that for triples with hook grip and at 116kg. And again, not a true sumo by any means. Just have to actually watch and form your own opinion instead of letting other people tell you.

I bust balls about sumo but I use it in training to build my base and for tie in strength at different mechanical angles. I suck at it lol but i do it.

I’m horrible at it too, but it helps me keep my hips and flexors and glutes tied in and strong. It’s different when you go super wide, I don’t even try that plus I like my toes too much. But at the hybrid width where my arms can just barely get between my knees, I believe it’s well within the “not cheating” standards and is incredibly difficult to do at a high level.

At the end of the day, people complain about arch too but it’s in the rules for benching, and squats are very hard to judge depth on so there will always be debate there too. But again, just watch Colton compete and there is no doubt that he’s the strongest lifter that’s ever moved weight in these disciplines.

Ed Coen is a legend but did everything in a single ply suit.
Haack is incredible too.

All have a place at the table, but Colton is sitting in the captain’s chair.

I compete RAW Classic myself , 2 Fed WR's in 198 for my age bracket , overall total and deadlift so far , never been in a suit in my life.
