The biggest change was in the shower performance. When you camp, you get used to turning water off and on while showering due to limited hot water tank storage. If we did this due to habit with the tankless before the restrictor was removed the water was cold when we turned it back on and had to wait another 45 sec or so for hot water.

With the restrictors removed the hot water started within 30-45 sec of turning on water (shower is about 10 ft from water heater) and stayed at temp.

After that worked, she removed it from the kitchen and the bathroom sink as well.
Thanks for the reply!

Domestic hot comes right off our boiler , no water heaters here. 180 degree hot until the oil tanks run dry WOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Showers are like walking into a sauna around here , had to replace the boiler but never had a water heater like folks do.

The 2 hour power shower after max lower is real.

You will wait an additional 15 to 30 seconds for the hot water compared to a tank.

I switched to a Navien that runs on propane a few years ago. Does all the hotwater in my house, and radiant floor heat in my bedroom and bathroom. I love the system.

Love walking on a warm tile floor when it's 10 degrees out.

The Mrs was looking into these for her new build, the builder, one of the top custom guys in this area didn't recommend them. Will ask her why.

I'm in construction. Not HVAC or Plumbing, but I know a lot of people in the business.

Plumbers either say they are great, or they suck. Navien is great, or you need a Bosch. Or vice-versa. All I ever got from the "they suck" crowd is that they break and you have to replace them...well so do conventional water heaters.

My cousin has run a very reputable plumbing business since the '80s. When I did my addition, he told me to go with the Navien, and that he had 100s of them installled, and very few have issues. I went with that recommendation and it's been great.

The only other thing I can think is that I live in the Northeast so the water isn't hard. I'd imagine hard water can mess with the tankless coils if it's not properly maintained.

A couple things to know before you buy....

First, you need to be sure you have enough water pressure. If your home has low water pressure tankless performance may be spotty at best.

Second...which I discovered the hard way...if your power goes out and you don't have a generator that tankless isn't going to heat anything. You've only got a few seconds of whatever hot water is in the line to blow through before you are taking a cold shower. It happened to me after I had soaped up but before I rinsed the night of the fires when we had a rolling blackout.

One of the best things ever. We have one in our house we built in 2020, freaking love it. Ours is gas, and with a a family of 5, we never have to worry about running out of hot water. We also have a home generator so no worries if the power goes out. I'll never not have one in a house I own
