Has anyone ever replaced a gas water heater with a tankless one?

My uncle has one, hot water on demand, hangs on the wall and saves a ton of space.

The costs for these systems have come down substantially. Takes up less space, uses less energy. Adds value to a home.

Had two tankless in my last home and it blew tank heater performance away. Will replace the tanks in my current home w/ tankless when the time comes.

I don’t have a lot of experience but what I seen is the opposite. It seems you can only turn it so high which is not very hot. And it takes a long time for it to get hot.
good part is once it gets hot it stays hot.
Maybe the one I see (my mom has) is a cheapie

I want to replace my tank with a tankless and inline filter, but I would have to do some rewiring. The wiring now would not support a tankless. It would be nice if the water heater was near the breaker, but it isn't even close.

Thanks for the feedback. The negatives I see posted are updating the gas line and higher costs for cleaning. I have heard more positive than negative so I am looking into it.

I have minimal experience with them other than having a tankless WH in our camper at our seasonal site.

We were not happy with its performance at all as it seemed it never really got hot or took a long time to get as hot as we liked. We played around with the controls and then after my wife had done some reading, she found that removing the water restrictors in the faucets greatly improves the performance.

Once those restrictors were removed, we were happy with the WH.

**Is this specific to RV tankless water heaters? --- I do not know

Go electric, no need for the added costs for gas line.

Have one now, besides having to run the water for about 10-15 seconds, it’s pretty dang good. You have endless supply of hot water. The brand is https://www.navieninc.com/residential/tankless-water-heaters… you’d want to get one that kicks in immediately and has enough heat capacity to heat up fast.

Some are trash. But I’m happy with this one, the water is so incredibly hot

How much did it change after you removed them?
Also, did you do it on all faucets and showers?

The biggest change was in the shower performance. When you camp, you get used to turning water off and on while showering due to limited hot water tank storage. If we did this due to habit with the tankless before the restrictor was removed the water was cold when we turned it back on and had to wait another 45 sec or so for hot water.

With the restrictors removed the hot water started within 30-45 sec of turning on water (shower is about 10 ft from water heater) and stayed at temp.

After that worked, she removed it from the kitchen and the bathroom sink as well.
